Fuel Questions

Engine is getting a rebuild as we speak. So I'm debating on injector sizes and what fuel rails to get. As far as tune ability would getting some good 550's pri and the id2k's be best? I was looking at possibly running ID725 pri and id1000 sec. Reason I started looking at the 725/1000 inj is I was reading on TurboRX7.com > Fuel System Facts. The flow for the 725/1000 is 3450cc/min which is in between the below chart. I doubt I'll go over the 370-380 hp with the '99 twins.

Pri Sec Total Flow Appx. max RWHP Appx. max RWHP
inj inj (cc/min) @100% duty cycle @85% duty cycle

850 850 3400 435 370
550 1200 3500 450 380

I already have the Adaptronic ECU, getting rid of the stock one.

Thanks for any info.

Carl

By far the best rails to get are Full Function Engineering. I have dealt with a few different rails and theirs are so nice to work with.

If you are on a budget sticking with the 550 primaries are fine. Definitely have the cleaned and flow balanced by RC Engineering though. After all, they are 20 year old injectors. The large difference between the primary and secondary sizes won't matter much with the ID's, and the Adaptronic. The transition will be seamless.

I would recommend 720/2000's with fresh FFE rails on both. Enough fuel if you ever decide to go single, and a fresh setup for your new rebuild. Running them in Series, like the stock layout is fine. I am pushing 500whp with a series setup and there are no issues.

Ya I have been looking at the FFE rail kit on RX7store. Looks really nice. I'll prob deff go with the id 725/2000. Would prob be better to stay with the same injectors all around. Down the road I may go to a single but I honestly doubt it. I may go to the BNR's later but I got the '99's at a great price.

While I'm at it should I go ahead and upgrade the coils from the stock ones?

For what it's worth, on mine I'm running the factory primaries and 2000s for secondaries - they run great. Mine isn't an FFE rail but I will be upgrading to an FFE rail at some point; this one is a bit... I dunno, just doesn't look / feel very solid and for a fuel system I think it should be!

Mine made about 400 hp on E85 with a little bit of margin left over.

Before I fixed my intercooler and went to the bigger turbo, I had run about 19 psi with the factory coils and plug but with new leads. Now I'm running the D585 coils with custom leads, and I can't run the factory plugs above about 12 psi; I need to run the race type plugs with the separate electrode (not the surface discharge type). I'm not sure why...

Would love to hear others' experiences with ignition systems...

Ok So I said hell with it. I picked up the FFE kit from RX-7 store with the id 850/2k's. I have to admit very sharp looking compared to the stock fuel rails. I also grabbed the AEM coil upgrade. Can't wait!!!

Good choice on both.

Now get a good pump in there and you are set. The Aeromotive Stealth will support up to 530whp.

Good stuff. If you have any questions on routing, or FPR placement, PM me.

You can actually mount the FPR to the secondary rail for a much cleaner install.....

Ok so new question. With my engine being rebuilt (didn't need new housings YAY!) After a lot of reading about breakins I want to keep her under 4krms for about 1000 miles and no boost or very little. Does the ecu have a base map to be easily setup so I can drive her enough to get a full tune a little later?

Question on the FFE trigger. Is it make that much of a difference for the engine? While I still have it torn apart should I'm thinking of getting one. Not sure if i should ge the 60 tooth or the other.

That's what motivated me to get the 60-2. But then I had to make sire I had an EMS that could handle it. I can't imagine tuning an engine even remotely close to the limit with an almost 10% variance in ignition timing.
