Cool The Official FC Wheel Fitment Thread

Ok... since there is nothing about FC in the archive (All I see is FD stuff... even photoshop of rx-8 wheels on FD... but NOTHING about correct FC fitments), I think we need one. I want people to post offset range for various wheel diameters for correct fitment on FC. After we have good amount of information, I want mods to add this to archive. Sounds good? Thanks in advance for the help!

Amen brother, about time. Here's what I've learned:

Per RETed:

17" x 8" +27mm offset (+30 to +25 should work) with 225/45/17 up front
17" x 9" +20mm offset (+15 to +30 will work) with 255/40/17 in back

I'm particularly interested in the 5Zigen FN01R-C wheels which I think just match these values.

Note: after further research, I have learned that RETed's wisdom of matching the tire width with the rim width is actually considered a very good theory on handling improvement and is recommended by some guy who wrote some book that I am too lazy to re-research right now. Let's not digress the thread with who it was, but just to say that, yes, it appears to be very solid advice indeed.

10.5" wide with +15mm offset in back with a 295 wide tire clears the inner suspension, but you'll need wide fenders back there.

Here is what I'm planning to get:

17X8 +35mm
17X9 +35mm

I was told by many people that this would fit perfectly.

Anyone know what is the max/min offsets are for 9" rims in the back? Some of the wheels that I'm still looking at has bigger offsets and it looks like you can fit wheels with bigger offsets in the back than front...

But I was told by many people that the combo I just posted would work and work well. It seems like there is no exact range of offset that everyone can agree on. I hope that we can find it as this thread keeps going.

Hm. Okay here's the deal: different brands of rims and especially different brands of tires have actually different widths for a given rated size. If you run 225's on 8" rims you will probably be able to get away with a higher offset than if you run, say, 245's. The same goes for different brands all at 225 width. So, you can't just say +35 offset works for a 17x8 in the front all the time. It most likely won't. But a +30 offset 17x8 most likely will. Granted, you might be able to get by with a 17x8 +35 if you run 225's that are moderate-to-narrow compared to other 225's, but again, YMMV. RETed has specified what I think (from looking at many posts and what many people run) to be a very intelligent, safe margin for these rim sizes. BUT, as the purpose of this thread is to get as much info as possible, let's see if we can't get people who are running larger offsets or larger setups to post their specific combos.

17x8 +35 and 17x9 +40 worked perfect for me, but if u can get +42 in the back go for it since it will look better, im running 225/45/17 front and 255/40/17 rear

i think it would also be a good idea to post pics of fender shots to see how the rim flows with the fender. you know, not sticking out, or disappearing into the body. list the offset and size you use along with a pic to give us all an idea of what that combination looks like.

I Have a 1991 Convertible and really like the look of my stock BBS wheels. I would like to find a 17" version of this same wheel without taking out a second mortgage. Will the BMW 5 series BBS 17" wheels work on my car? What' s the optimum compromise 17" Wheel/Tire combination for a 1991 Street Cruiser? Thanks in advance for any advice!

No.  Most 5 bolt BMW wheels have 5 x 130mm bolt patterns, which will not fit on RX-7's.

It's not on purpose. I'll let this one run for a while and when more good stuff gets in it we'll move it to the archive. Remind me if I forget!

Sounds good I wasn't blaming the mods for or anything. I just saw there was nothing and thought we could use one!

I'll be willing to takes pic and post them on my website for reference.
I've got a couple cars that I can take pic of as examples.
Ideally, I would want one view of front wheel, one view of rear wheel, and one pic of both wheels.

I try and archive everything that's truly informative and a common subject, but there's just not many of you FC guys in this section. Bring your friends

That's more like it.
http://www.negative-camber.org/crisp...c/fcpart11.htm
This guy put third gen wheels on his FC and with the spacers from Rays Engineering he claims to have only a 1/16" gap between the strut and the tire and he also says the tire sticks out slightly. By looking at the pics, it's not too terribly bad, but I don't want mine sticking out at all. If I end up lowering my car, I don't want any interference between the tire and fender.

Thank you for starting this thread.

And thanks to RETed for all the info we've come to expect from the gurus.

If I had the front fender width to make it fit, what kind of offset would I be looking at for 9" wheels in the front? Would it be the same as the rears, roughly?

9" front would need around a +15mm offset, if you got the fenders to cover them.

255 wide tires would not be a problem.

I might be getting these rims for my car and the size are

16 X 7.5 front
16 X 8 rear

wondering if they would work on my GXL or do i need spacers?? I don't know the offset, but its around 38-40 though

Thanx,

here is a pic of 18x9's with 25mm offset. i didn't measure the offset but that's what i was told.

the rear should go in another 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch and the front probably twice that, BUT, the tire is already touching the strut in the front. unless you have wide body fenders, 9's are gonna stick out quite a bit. I've been doing some thinking and I really would like to measure the rims to be sure of the offset.

I have experience with a 15" x 10" wheels on an FC. I purchased them with 5" of backspacing wich gives them 0 offset. They easily cleared the ground controlled coilovers but because of the face design on the race wheels they barley scraped the front brake calipers. Because of this I would run a 3/8" spacer. With the spacer they stuck out from the fenders by around 2.5".

With a 23" tall tire I had plenty of tire/fender spacing at stock ride height but it did limit how much I could lower the car.

Here is what I have:

Enkei RPF1 Wheels. Tein RA's, no fender mods at all...The ONLY thing I did was grind of a metal bur (front) on the coilover casting...But it wasn't rub'n at all before I grinded it off, but just rather a failsafe...When I had it on the hoist it was about 3mm between the tire and coilover before and 4mm after I grinded it off...

Front: 17 x 9 +35mm w/ 235-45-17

Rear: 19 x 9 +38 w/ 275-40-17

The only tires that WILL rub in front are V-700's because there blocky tires... Pilots, S02's, P-Zero-A's and Falken's will work with my experience. I noticed very little in grip difference with 235 vs 225, but with 275's on back the 235 probably would be best..

Discount tire here ordered all the sizes from 17 x 8, 8.5, 9, 9.5 & 10.... to see what would be the widest I could go... The 17 x 10 +32mm fit the rear, however it was Enkei TX's only 17 x 10 RPF1 and to wait for the other 17 x 10 from Enkei JP would take months, so I settled for the 9.5 because it will support a 275... This is what worked for me

I'm sorry, but those wheels/tires would make you illegal in Hawaii and most other areas in the U.S. - having the tire tread outside of the wheel well is unsafe.  Upon heavy compression of the suspension, the tire can hit the wheel well and cause a blow-out which can easily get you hurt.

I don't advocate running wheel/tire combinations that do this.
