Hinsen V-8 Wreck

Ran across this Vid. The Hinsen V-8 Rx7 had some bad luck @ the track. Car got messed up. The good thing is the guy is ok. Cars can be replaced/ People cannot. Be safe guys.

weird, from the smoke pouring out from under the hood, it looks like the car had some sort of catastrophic oil loss + then he hits the brakes=wipeout.

I'm no expert, but I don't think slamming on his brakes is what sent him spinning 90 degrees to the right. I'm guessing either 1) oil spill caused him to lose traction and spin badly (but I still don't see him spinning THAT hard to one side...I'd think the car would drift in one general direction), or 2) a tire or suspension component failure, basically dropping the car on it's side, spinning it like that. That's the most likely culprit from my limited knowledge. Feel free to add/correct.

Anyone find out if it's really Hinen's V-8 FD??

That is Hinson's car. The wreck happened at the "Hot Rod Magazine Pump Gas Drag" contest.

So is this a recent accident (post Deal's Gap) or old? And anyone know what happened?

well you can see that he gets on the brakes after the smoke and before the loss of control. yes slamming on the brakes in a low traction situation = spin.

Yea I'm w/ you there...but what I'm saying is, I think something initially caused him to lose traction, not just braking. I think he may have been losing traction, SO he pressed the brakes, and the result was spinning like that. That make more sense?

The car has twin turbos and they are located foward of the engine. He might have blown the left turbo causing the oil/smoke.

Regardless of why he crashed, i think taht car sucked. Dont look too impressive speed wise. Not to bash on v8's but ive never been impressed by any 7 with a v8 swap. Oh well.

yeah, because and 9.5 second 1/4 mile time even slamming on the brakes and crashing is SO slow

It ran a 9.5@142 what do you run? Thats what I thought.

It just happened a week ago, Brian is ok.

They said the cooling system overpressurized, and he blew coolant on the track.

Why would you even post that? Have some respect the guy crashed his car. Regardless of you V8 opinion you can be such an *** that you dont feel for the guy.

It is people like you that make me call you rotards.

Oh what is your best pass with the T78? Thats what I thought too.

FWIW I ran a 10.78@127 with a cam only LS1 whatcha got?

What he got is stranded on the side of the road in Atlanta on his way to last years rotary revolution. Had to call a bunch of local guys to help him figure out why his car wouldn't run. He kept calling Birmingham people trying to have them diagnose his problem over the phone...then got mad at them when they couldn't. So pretty much yeah...rotarded.

was this the same TT V8 7 that the vid was posted from when it was at Deal's Gap? i'm on 56k, so i can't download the vid.

personally, i don't believe in removing the original spirit that made the 7 special, but a 9.5 second quarter mile is nothing to sneeze at, it's damn impressive. too bad that the car got trashed.

Interesting point of view. As the only person in AL i talked to was Herblenny but sure

Btw best pass every made on the t78 car was 11.2@137 first and only pass as i was kicked off the track for my et. This was on toyo proxie 225/45/16s at 19lbs. Car was later sold to rotarynemesis right here on the forum.

I have no need to go into the arguement of swapping a motor of a different orientation into this vehical. For those who ruin a peice of history.. One that is becoming even more so a rare icon on the road, when the car is no longer you have done every single one of us who work hard to maintain our community of rotorheads a favor. In one instance you have took a great car, put a peice of american junk in a highly engineered japanese vehical.. one of the only real japanese supercars in my opinion, you have ruined it. Its making it somthing its not, You might as well put a SS sticker or a type r sticker on it because it is no longer a RX7. On the other hand when you do this and you wreck, total, etc you do us a favor by making our cars even more rare. To each his own I guess.

Not to be an *** or anything, but always trying to justify the V8 vs rotary based off of how fast it runs a 1/4 mile means you stand next to the v8 swaps just as obnoxiously as those that stand next to rotaries. I'm not gonna front, it was a badass car... just not my flavor. I respect what others do to their cars, and i expect that respect back.

GREAT POST!!! I totally respect american muscle as my father used to collect and curently owns 73 and previous mustangs and i am a big the super sport and other raw power classics, but the whole reason japanese motorsports are referred to as tuning (tuners ect) is because its very scientifically and precisely engineered. Every aspect if balanced and thought out for optimum performace. The rotary engine is the pinaccle of this. Meanwhile the american approach is "bigger=faster, lets just go in straight lines". It sucks to see a 7 get wrecked and i feel for man who put his hard work and time into it, i would never laugh at that. But if thats one less 7, then thats one more boost to the 7's legend.

One of the best parts of owning a 7 is the expression on peoples faces when you mention it and they say "thats the one with the rotary engine right?", i couldnt imagine being so lame to answer with " well it had a rotary but now its has pistons just like the 1642 cars you saw on your way to work today". I own a beat up fc with a shitty paint job and its still more mention and talked about on my block than the supercharged camaro running 10's. I hope to run as fast as the fd in the vid one day, but if i dont do it with a rotary it wont be done.
