Your RX7 suggestions
hey guys I'm in the middle of making a decision and it would be great to get your input just to see your opinions... I found a 1993 silver Touring rx7 with 52k miles on it,in SoCal,priced at 17,000, it looks to be in exellent condition it is completely stock and with original wheel and black leather interior (very clean)... I think the price is good...but is it right for a private seller or would that be a price of a Dealer?

Wishin I Still Had The FD
It's been my personal opinion that FD pricing has become very loose and arbitrary in the last year or so. It all comes down to what you're willing to pay. There are still great deals out there, but it comes back to the availability how much you can are willing to spend.
Pricing aside, like Mahjik mentioned, do your homework and find all you can about the car.

Get it checked out (incl Compression Test) by Speed Machine Performance in Vista before you purchase. They do all the main and servicing of the Falken RX-7.
Sounds like a fair price. You need see how well it was taken care of and how knowlegable the owner is of RX-7's and the rotary engine. Also check to make sure that the recalls have been done for the fuel line and the cooling. Ask for receipts and make sure that all work was done by someone competent and that is knowledgable about RX-7's.
Is the engine original or a rebuild?

Rotary Enthusiast
if I am thinking about buying a FD from a stranger I would have the car check out at a local rotary shop...rather lose 300-400 bucks than paying $17K for a car and engine blow few months later.

it's a good idea yeah, but don't trade one rip-off for another.

i just bought an rx7 about a week ago payed 14,9 for it ...93 all stock car was mint ...i personal wasnt going to pay over 14-15 for a older car...but ive been looking for one for over 3 years and this was the cleanest one ive found...
my car has 85,000 on it and rx7 store did a compression test on it before the guy sold it....said it was good...if that helps you at all with pricing
i always thought fd's pricing was lower in cali.??

With a car this old, it can be difficult to get financing. Ca$h is king. Can you get the cash together to buy it?
By my reckoning the seller is about a thousand dollars too high. A typical seller tactic is to price high figuring you're going to be bargained down.
And here's the buyer counter-tactic .......... show up with $15,800 in hand (the Kelley Blue Book private party price) and say, "Here's all I have. Wanna sell?"
Even if he declines, or hems and haws, leave the offer open. In a few days he may call you back. Why? Because the car is still sitting there and no one has shown up with cash in hand. Money talks, sh-- walks.

I've learned that most used car dealers buy their cars at auction, or get them on trade in, and they add an average of $4-5000 above what they paid on most used cars priced above $10k. Cars below that are almost always doubled.
Like JConn2299 said, Cash or having a preapproved check can get you what you want.
Trust me saving a grand is worth it. I financed through Capital One with 5.9% int. for a Private party purchase.
