your opinion on this buy!

Hello,
I am looking at buying this rx7 94" which needs to be complianced as it is an import from japan. The owner is selling it pretty cheap for the fact that it has to be complianced. The car is on the other side of the country and i would like to know your opinion on the purchase but all together will be getting it pretty cheap and i'm just a little concerned. It is a stock twin turbo with a super intake system running 10-12 psi,
What is your opinion thank you!

Not much info about the car really. Stock w/stripes, wheels and an intake? What about miles, motor miles, chassis miles, condition, etc?

What is a 94 worth where you live? $15K USD?

What is cheap as you define it?

How hard is the "compliance"?

Hello,
It has 39,00 miles, condition is pretty good. A 94" in Australia is worth $30,000 AUS so yeah 15,000 USD. I can get it for $6,000 USD and no it is not hard at all, i have already organised it for $500 USD

Ok, for $6K you can get a car that is worth $15K. Even if it has a bad motor it sounds like it is worth it. USD you can do the entire rebuild game for about $3-3.5K after everything (hoses, clutch, fluids, gaskets, etc).

With all the stripes I would be worried about the entire car being beat up. If not then go for it.

The reason it has strips is because the owner said that he wanted to use for it dragging but never got around to it.

Hey, I've wanted to import a car from Japan. I think 6,000 is kind of right in the range of what you'd pay at an auction site that hosts cars in Japan. If the car is in good shape, definately go for it. Take that car to a mechanic and see if there's anything wrong first. Oh, and don't get the steering wheel moved to the left, right hand drive would kick ***.

My only concern is that the car is on the other side of country and don't want to go their and not get it sort of thing. The current owner thinks that it cost much more to complaince the car but it doesn't, which is my concern of why he is selling it cheap. What psi would the stock turbos take?
Thank you very much for your help!

Could i please get your opinions please! The car is going to me checked for any problems but still want your opinion for you know more about rotarys and rx7s. It has does 39,000miles twin turbo, super intake system running 10 psi then boosted controlled to 12 psi. It needs to be complainced which means in order to drive it on the road it needs to be up to Australian standards which is only like seat belts etc.. which is not to expensive. The owner want to use it for dragging but didn't get around to it but i think it's a good purchase i don't want to buy it and have trouble that all, what do you think?
Thank you

We're not psychic....you can read through the buyer's guides in the FAQ link to get a better idea of what you are getting into but I don't know what you expect us to tell you. We don't have the car in front of us!

If you can get the car checked out and you're getting a good deal, then go for it. If you don't feel comfortable with the purchase, then don't buy it.

oh, that sound like another scam! There's alot of those "the car is located in other country" scams in the craigslist.org. Common thing is that the car is usualy VERY cheap and located in another country or state. They always ask you for wire transfer for payments and....etc etc. Here is an example....

Hi there!

Thank you for your interest regarding my 2000 Mercedes-Benz E430 . I emailed you to let you know that the car is still available. I had a buyer offering $8,000 but his loan did not get approved.

I am selling the car for $7400; the price includes all the shipping costs and insurance so you won't have to pay any extra charges. The 2000 Mercedes-Benz E430 is located in Sugarland, TX and it looks like new, it has never been scratched or wrecked. It will come with a clear title, bill of sale signed by me as well and all the papers (including the original manuals and keys) that you will need to register it under your name. I want to sell it because we need the money to finish our new house, so I'm willing to let it go for 7400 bucks First come, first served.

About the payment method I will only accept an escrow service because it's the safest way for both of us. The escrow is a third party that holds your money until you receive and approve the car. Also, you will have 3 days for inspecting it at your home and if you agree to keep the car, I will receive the money. If you agree with these terms, please reply me and I will be more than glad to provide you with further information on how to purchase the Mercedes-Benz E430 ASAP.

Also, I've attached a few pictures of the car and here is the car's description: Mercedes-Benz E430, Year: 2000, Miles: 69.845, Title: Clear, Exterior: Silver, VIN Number: WDBJF83J2YX036490

Best Regards,

Good point. With that in mind, "not been complianced" reads more like "it's not registered in your country so you can't figure out if it's real, nor can you do anything legally when you do fall for it".

First, you have all ready determined how much it would cost to bring the car in compliance. With that in mind call the owner and ask WHY he thinks it will cost much more to compliance the car. Get his view of the cost then compare notes. he may be way off in his reasoning. Compare noites and if the cost estimates you got are within your budget then buy the car and get it in compliance.

Oh, and then PAINT IT!!!

Love the white color(?) Stripes and decals need to go.

psi can vary. I'm running stock twins at about 7 psi, but you can probably go as high as 12 psi without any trouble (my guess).

Super77

P.S. If you get it and get it fixed up, post some pics. Best of luck and drive like you stole it!!

Thanks mate. The strips are nly stickers so that can be removed. I thank you for your comments. I do want to talk to him about his price of complianing it but i'm afaird if he really knows the price he will keep it. In regards to get the car on the road that is no problem. As soon as i get it complianced i can get it on the road straight away, already worked it all out.
Thank you.

Rexhvn,

One more thing I forgot to mention....try to locate a good shop in his area and ask the owner if you can have the car inspected thoroughly before you buy. If the owner says no, walk away from the deal.

Any legitimate seller will welcome an inspection. Everyone on this site knows how tempermental these cars can be. An inspection before buying is standard operating procedure!!

I would hate to think that you would travel such a great distance only to find that what you thought was a good deal is in fact a maintenance nightmare.

You want someone to tell you what to do???

OK !! If the car is $6000 (us dollars), and has 39000 miles, go look at it. If it appears to be in good shape, and runs good, BUY IT!! Even if the motor has problems, it is still a bargain. If you send the guy to a rotary shop to get it checked out, someone at the shop will buy it from him.

Go see it. Buy it if it looks good !!
