Your Definition of "Rice" (as it pertains to the FD)

I suppose my definition would be anything external/cosmetic which doesn't have a direct positive effect on the functionality of the car (for it's intended use). In terms of street use, which is probably 95% of the cars on this forum, that would include side skirts, wings/spoilers, front lips, and the like. "Fart can" mufflers are obviously warranted for high boost applications, where flows can easily exceed 500 cfm.

Your definition?

why does it matter. build your car how you like it. there is always going to be someone with different taste.

i think the 3rd gen section should be reserved for technical discussions. this thread is just an excuse for lounge-style banter and argument. like i said, everyone has a different opinion.

I guess I can't say to much, because the body of my FD is completely stock. I do think that considering anything not aiding to the functionality of a street driven car is sort of shallow thinking. If I used your reasoning the entire FD is a big piece of rice, even from the factory. You don't need a car even remotely like the FD for street driving. To be honest the only kind of car any one needs for street driving is car's like a protege. Since every person in the world dose not drive a protege, and factories include "unnecessary" style into there cars everyone must have some rice. The FD is especially included in the rice category according to your thinking, because compared to a car like a protege the whole FD is an unnecessary waste of money.

?

That's not the point. The question is add-ons which don't benefit the functionality/performance of the car, not whether the car is "too much for the street", that's an entirely separate issue.

Correction, there are far too many people with no taste.

this thread is 100% pointless. go read the comments in the "Post your pics" thread if you're bored. people discuss their opinions on what they consider to be "rice" all the time.

this section is for technical discussions.

don't start a pointless, opinion-based, "loaded-issue" thread for no reason. this thread has zero potential to contribute to this section at all and it belongs in the lounge.

thread fail.

I'm curious to know why the OP thinks he is such an authority on this issue? What makes your taste so superior to everyone else? Further "rice" is a derogatory term. Quit wasting everyones time.

Because his name is Mark Strong and he will roll over you like an M1 Tank rolls over weeds, despite the fact that he needs to stand on his tippy-toes to see over a Protege.

Mark doesn't need to explain himself to the likes of you :-P

The "Predicting Community Changes" thread by Gordon was non-technical (and a great thread), as opposed to another iteration of "sequential vs. non-sequential"....

As the community gets younger, anti-rice becomes less popular, I think that's the key issue.

my thoughts, mostly asian aplication of tuning isnt rice, the term rice imo is used too much by *non-asian* to describe an asian tuned or influenced car.

Look at japanese tuners, all serious cars and parts, mostly functional *no fake intercoolers like you might see some kid out here with*. But if the car looks like **** (i.e. bad taste in parts) then there is no excuse for that.

You got to be able to recognize and determine the difference between these 2 cars

Someone who has been into cars most of their life, will build their car with style and performance in mind, someone whos bandwagon, will go mainly for looks like that civic.

What are you on about? Youth doesn't equate to "rice" Mark, age doesn't dictate taste. Aren't you the one always bragging about street racing mustangs and crap like that?

If anything I'd say that recent builds have focused on refining the vehicle, not "ricing" it, and this is coming from young and old owners alike.

Keep your mid-life crisis and subsequent (misplaced) need to prove your self in the lounge.

So-called "asian" influence plays a role, and asian cars (as well as bikes) seem to get progressively uglier with time, but the specific issue here is race inspired or "show" car inspired bodywork (generally add-on vs. replacement - I believe some aftermarket front bumpers are tasteful, for example) that has no functional value on the street.

The pic you posted is certainly an extreme example of rice!

why even bother over analyzing other peoples cars and functionality? how many times a year do you even use your car to its full potential? a couple sideskirts arent going to hurt your performance even if you do.

What's wrong with rice, I eat rice everyday so that is why my car does too, in all seriousness , basically rice is when you install something that has no function like when you install a wanna be intercooler or a wanna BOV sound or turbo sound....

If you feel that adding performance parts whether it be interior like Bucket seats or exterior parts to make the car more aero dynamic for street use they you are saying that adding a single turbo or making the car more powerful for the street is rice.

Now why would you need a 500WHP for the street, that is like saying why do you need a big wing or a full race Body kit for the street...In that case you should make it 100% of tuner cars on the street along with exotics are rice including you...

That what I think...

Here some pics of my "RICED OUT CAR" as you say just for you...

Here one with a massive wing street driven
