I would get the z06. Stock for stock there is no comparison

Like he said above....

I have both of them also...a 2002 modded out yellow Z06 ( aith 125 shot of juice ) and a 93 single turbo Rx7. Bought the Z brand new and the 7 with 32k miles on it. Although the 7 has been an automatic ( currently going manual ), I thought it was the fastest car I'd ever driven until I bought the Z06.

I love the Rx7 and will always have one, but If you get a Z06 you will not be able to wipe the smile off your face.

stock Z06 vs stock FD we all know the outcome, but I still like the 7, its just rare and turns heads with ease. If manage to pull some extra cash down along the line I might get a Z06...but I sure as hell ain't getting rid of the FD.

I keep thinking about switching to a z06 as well but IMO it's not quite as fun to drive and it's just too big. However after a few more engines and headaches I'm sure I'll pull the trigger on something that's newer. I say a prayer every night for mazda to build another 7 LOL

To me the FD is still one of the best looking cars ever made. Just looking at gives me a

I would also buy a Z06 specially after I got to drive one...I love the power and the handling but I would never replace my FD for it...

The RX7 is a hell of a lot more of a rare car. Stick with the 7 and the Cobra.

Wow, it's rare and it's worth less than a new Honda Civic. If that isn't a sign of prestige, I don't know what is...

I'll be damned. I did some checking around and it looks like you're correct. In all of the RX-7 books I've read, never seen it referred to like that. I think it sounds kind of silly, FC3S sounds much better, lol.

I would take my current setup over a Z06. If I had to do it all over again, I would have saved myself the time, money, and effort and bought a Z06

I could always find a ZO6. Not true for the FD. I would keep the FD, unique and less of them everyday.

It sure nice if I could get 300 rwhp out of the FD without losing and arm and a ball...LOL!
I have driven a c5 and ridden in a c6. Honestly, I loved both of them. The c5 wasnt a z06 but honestly it felt relatively close to the handling you feel in a fd(stock to stock). Now the c6 is a whole other story. It by far made the rx7 feel inferior. Acceleration, braking, and handling it dominated the fd. Then again they are going for mid 50s so I did expect this from the car. Both cars a much better built as far as interior durability and they look close to as good as a fd. However, neither the c5 or c6 gives me the feeling the fd does. I would take a c5 or c6 and be happy however I will always have a fd in the garage.

the zo6 is a gorgeus and amazing handling car...really fast too....but the fact is that the rx7 is unique. i personally enjoy driving a more rare car rather than a car that is seen almost every day on the street. But put it this way my t78 rx7 at 6psi sticks dead even with a z06 on a roll. so that should give you a good perspective of how fast they are. that z06 only had exhaust. Thats impressive....and reliable unlike my t78 rx7 which has recently blown up i am sure that the z06 is still running perfect. But anyways the corvette still has a lot of price depreciation to go through so i would say wait it out and keep the fd and eventually sell the cobra...i have driven one and it was fun but not as responsive and awe inspiring as the zo6. Well thats my .02
Peace out
Ryan

Well, to me there's a big difference between saying that your car is rare and all remaining examples are owned by other serious car collectors and saying that your car is rare, but the majority of the remaining examples are currently being driven by teenagers.

Regardless, if "rarer" is one of your criteria for why the FD is better than the Z06 Corvette, then you probably have some self-esteem issues to deal with. I think you make your car your own by your personal style and performance changes, regardless of what the production numbers are/were. The only reason there aren't more FDs in the U.S. is because A) Mazda did a horrible marketing job, B) it couldn't easily pass OBD-II emissions requirements for 1996, and C) those remaining are steadily being reduced to parts cars in one form or another...

Ditto. I'm in over $50K in my 3rd gen.

My car is probably at its limit in terms of performance and reliability. I look forward to seeing how it stacks up against the new C6 Z06 on the track. If the FD is close or a bit faster, I'll probably keep it for a bit longer. Otherwise, I may have to ditch the turbo weed whacker in favor of something with much more potential...

Tough choice...

The Good

Z06
-ballz fast! STOCK best bang for the buck
-Reliable
-Good looking car (Exterior)
-New car (at least semi new)
-Many aftermarket parts.
-Many Vettes around = many parts available for years to come
-Not been associated with the ricer crowd

FD
-Paid for
-Cheap insurance
-Kinda Fast, but can be made to be ballz fast.
-Looks better IMO than the Vette (Exterior)
-Interior is beautiful
-Rare with a cool factor
-Many aftermarket parts
-It's one of those cars that even 20 years from now it will still be cool.
- Depreciation, pretty good for a 10-12 year old car.

The bad:

Z06
-Price
-Higher insurance
-Interior is questionable (looks wise, but it's IMO)
-They are everywhere
-Stigma of mid age crisis.
-The never ending argument that the design was borrowed from the FD. (Im not saying they did)
- Depreciation factor.

FD
-UNRELIABLE, owner requires other cars as daily drivers. People wonder why you own such a money pit.
-Rotary experts are hard to come by
- Only a pretty well modified FD can compete with an stock Z06. At the price of reliability.
-OLD car. Many, many, things are going to continue to go wrong with it.
-Since it is a rare car parts are expensive as hell.
-Since it is a rare car, Mazda will discontinue replacement parts sooner than other more popular models.
- May be seen as a ricer kids car. The price has dropped so much that now teenagers can buy them but can't afford to keep them running.

The answer basically comes down to how much you love your FD? And what exactly do you love about it. The looks, the performance, the price? If the Z06 over shadows your FD in what you love about it, then don't hesitate replace it. Sicne you can afford it.

Me? I still love my FD, but the Z06 is a close second.
