Your current FD or 02-04 Z06

Yesterday, after seeing a black Z06 with Fikse FM10 my mind start toying with an idea of selling the FD and buy a 2002-2004 Z06. A c5 would set me back at least 1200.00/month...FD nothing just 70 bucks for insurance. If I want zero payment the Cobra has to go too...

How about you, would you rather have a Z06 or your current FD?

Keep the FD & Cobra
You now have both a Racecar and a muscle car
If you sell you will only have a muscle car

1200/Mo????? How the hell does that work?

Personally I'd stick with the FD. I've driven the Z06, but only on the track. It's nice as hell. Love the power, but feels too big. Not a big fan of the throttle too. That drive by wire just doesn't do it for me. I like the ergonomics of the FD better as well. Styling of the Z06 works with me. I do like it, but the FD has definitely grown on me. Stock for stock I think I'll have to agree with /\. The aftermarket is just as good with the Z06 as it is for the FD. But the uniqueness of the 7 is the game ender. No competition there.

The 2002-2004 Z06 and the 7, it is a tough choice. I was thinking of the same thing, until I heard about the insurance. Around 2 grand for a year, so I was like thank ya (for making my choice), no z06. But the depreciation of the 2002-2004 Z06, it still has a lot of room to fall, unlike the 7. It will probably stay the same for a long time. I mean it wasn't worth losing extra $2000 for me a year either, plus depreciation. Also, the extra money that you are thinking about using on a Z06, go get a nice luxury SUV and keep your 7.

I have not drove in a C5...sat in a C6 and didn't like it at all comparing to the racy tight fit of the FD. Also the C5's instruments panel are not as nice as the FD...with the FD everything is at your reach...C5&C6 no.

Screwed it...no car payment since 99 and not planing to paid no $1000.00+/mths

It sure nice if I could get 300 rwhp out of the FD without losing and arm and a ball...LOL!

I think insurance would be rediculous on a Z06 when compared to the tib. The insurance on my 93 FD is $40 LESS than it was on my 04 V6 Tiburon, I cant even imagine what it would be on an 04 Z06.

Besides I see way too many vettes on the streets, I have seen only one other FD in the past 3 months!

Although the Z06 is a nice car and is very fast, for the price i will keep my FD. I dont think I will have any problem taking on a Z06 in a race with my T78. I also have a lot less money overall in my car.

oops, didn't realize my fathers account is logged on.

You know what though, for the new 2006 Z06, I think I would sell my house to get it, j/k.

Imagine a 7.0L with a turbo setup. That would be a monster car on the road.

There is no way I'd trade my RX-7 for an 02-04 Z06 even if the cost was the same... let alone paying 1200/month for a Z06!

Talking Ask JimLab

Someone should ask JimLab - he owns them both.

Well - his FD used to be a car I guess - but it's been so long since he drove it as a rotary he can't remember what it was like

do you want a z06 or an FD? if the FD doesnt really mean that much to you, get the z06. personally the FD is my favorite car whether its slower than whatever cars, the only thing i'd sell it for is an italian bike hehe.

you own a piece of rareness man, a piece of history..even though stock for stock, the z06 is clearly a better overall car, more powerful, more reliable etc etc than the fd, having an fd is being unique..

its all up to you, what will make you happy in the end?

On my current budget, I'll be keeping the FD for quite a while, but the Z06 is an amazing machine, I would certainly never turn one down.

I can't see getting rid of my FD in the forseeable future, but I could definately see adding a Z06. If I was a rich man, I'd put down a deposit on a C6 Z06 right now, that thing is going to be a beast.

I think you mean FC3S.....FC3S was something in Star Wars maybe

I like the Z06s, but would not trade my modded FD for one. Stock for stock there is no comparison, but given 10+ yrs of technology advances that is not surprising.

I just rolled through your neck of the woods yesterday while heading to New Milford to visit the mother in law, will be leaving tomorrow via the same route, any chance you'll be out and about so I can see that gorgeous car of yours?

ok heres my thoughts. You could always mix them LS6/FD now thats a nice combo. Here is something else you can look at , what would you get the zo6 for? drag or autocross? Their isnt much difference in the z06 and the regular vette cars aside for the engine. Yes i know their are a few cosmetic differences , springs and brakes but personally i dont like the no hatch look of the ZO6. I would get a regular vette (black ,hatch with a targa top , oh those look so bad) which with a quick search i found in the high 20ks for a 00-02 (nothing has changed in thes years) versus a 02-04 vette which was in the mid 40ks. I would get it take it straight to a performance shop get a forged 396 0r 402 and a huge single turbo . what im saying as good as the zo6 handels it can always be made better. They only dyno on average of like 360 to the wheels (most of the time you just stick a small street cam in an ls1 and you get more than that) . You for the money could make on bad *** vette . If the z06 badge is what you want, well id rather have a badge that said turbo 402 on the side of my car. One more thing if you want the "all mighty ls6" the blocks arnt that expensive to do a build up with.

the reason i put the ls1 into my fd is because of the interior differences. My fd's interior looks great the vettes suck! period no contest. Now the C6 vette's interior is a whole nother ball game. man i would love to have one of those.
