Talking YES! My idle is back to normal, H4 Nokya bulbs!! and getting ready for my dyno-tune

Ahhh...SOOOO much better. I was going absolutely INSANE for the past month.

My idle is back to normal finally! I drove down to turbojeff's in Eugene, OR, and we hashed it all out (again, I was relegated to standing there and absorbing it all in as he geeked around in my car.). Before, everytime I pulled up somewhere, stopped the car, or idled..my idle was like UUUUUh.....uhhh....UHHHHH....uhhh....UHHHH...uhhh. .. Absolutely bonkers!

Let me say..it took alotta unscrewing, screwing, adjusting, turning, etc., etc....until he got it right with my expert PFC reading skills. Credit to him, though....first time he's ever done it. It was a learning experience for both of us.

I'll have to admit...the RX7 is REALLY touchy when it comes to it's idle...so many things to adjust. I think we also determined that the jumper really didn't do squat for us. I think that was left out the last half of the adjustment phase.

While we were at it....he noticed that my left front headlight was out...the high beam were working, but the low beam filament was gone. Couple that with one of the worst rainstorms I've had to drive through in quite awhile, and it made for a precarious 4-hr trip back home. I drove through the downpour at a steady 65 mph with thoughs of all the spin-outs and hydroplanes everyone fears in the back of my head. The water was thick on the road was thick enough to ski on.

Plus adding the fact that purple lightning was striking within probably a half-mile distance (instantenous thunder) and my wife being scared outta her wits, I was kinda nervous.

No problem getting back though....and I went and picked up some H4 Nokya Arctic White Pro Halogen bulbs....these suckers are bright as heck, and Jeff..if you were wondering, these are the ones that were in my car originally.

I disassembled the lights...took'em upstairs, washed them, dried them off, gave a bit of polish, and installed the new bulbs, re-installed them, and man...what a difference. Clear as day, and really a beautiful blueish hue to them....I plan on taking some pics of it, later..so we can compare.

I also replaced my aging, torn, and nasty stick-shift **** with a Mazdaspeed Carbon Fiber shift ****. Man, I really like this shift ****..it just feels fantastic, and believe it or not...the shift feel seems really light, and fluid now...less mechanical feeling due to all that weight from the older ****. I recommend trying this out, because taking off that "lead shotput-mother-f'er" made a big difference.

I had to separate the shift boot from the little plastic piece at the top, and zip-tie it to get rid of the gap, but it looks perfect now. Pics to come....just for those of you who haven't seen it before.

All in all...everytime I fix or get something fixed on this car...I just feel SOOOOO good. It's like a drug or an addiction...my car gets better and better everyday. I love my 7.

congrats bro......

Hope you don't mind me asking, but how much you pay for the bulbs? I've been looking to get some nice ones and I am not about to make a trip to Murrays and buy some APC ones.

The bulbs were $24 bucks, and I bet you could get them cheaper if you don't go to some street tuner store like I did...

Thanks....man..my wife is so happy. She wouldn't ride in my car at all before getting that idle fixed....she thought my car was a POS. :

Oh...and since my car has finally been fully broken in, I'm getting my car dyno-tuned at Ground Zero/Xcessive....Ralph asked me to change my spark plugs...so I bought some NGK 9's at Schucks for 4 bucks a pop...not bad. I still have to install them.

I had the oil replaced today (barely any time to do it myself) with Mobil 1 Synthetic, and I'm going to replace the tranny & diff fluid with some Redline 90 & MTL.

The Mobil 1 really made a difference...my car seemed so much smoother..it was nice.

can you use the TPS voltage readout on the PFC to adjust idle?

Yepz...sure can. That's pretty much what we used to get within spec the whole time. The PFC was invaluable when we were making the adjustments.

Very handy....makes it really easy to adjust. As far as the website...I'm not sure about that..let me check and see if there's something on the packaging.

I just did a search on the internet..and apparently..these bulbs are like $60 bucks a pop!

I guess it was a good price....lowest I've seen is $28 bucks.

Here's the main website:

http://www.spwusa.com/

Check it out....good review of them here:

http://www.autothing.com/catalog/nok..._h4_811320.htm

Nokyas shine brightly at 90/100 watts (4100K)

Does anyone remember when every car, truck, and SUV had the same color headlights? Well, we certainly thank whoever made the big step to change that! Once we tried Super White headlight bulbs from PIAA, we were impressed! But then we tried these Arctic Nokyas we offer, and we fell in love- they just give such a nice blue/white glow from your auto's headlights. But don't take our word for it, just take a look at other cars when you drive around; blue lights (and white) really make those street and highway signs reflect like you've never seen. Additionally, you'll be impressed how damn shiny those little reflective pads they're putting in roads lately become- wow! But hey, safety is not the only thing to keep in mind: how about looks? Like we said, keep an eye out for other cars and trucks wearing these awesome lights. Sure, anything different is always impressive, but these are just a better way of looking at things, especially at night when your auto is going to look way better lighting up the roads than vehicles with standard bulbs. Surprisingly, these look SO cool even during the day too. Really, they still give off a sweet looking blue and white light! In case you wondered, these lights are identical to the ones you have in your vehicle right now; the only difference is that these have an intense blue coating on the bulb, which gives them the look that turns heads. We've said it before and we'll say it again: "These look great on every vehicle!" We don't say that as a quick slogan just to be like everyone else, we say it because as you can see all over the site, we think every vehicle deserves to have a unique and personalized touch- and this is a big step in that direction! Why let Lexus and BMW owners have all the fun with their expensive lights? "Heck no!" we say... let's all look great when we go for a ride and let's all have the road ahead looking as sharp as you've never seen it with traditional yellow-tinted bulbs. So, try these- guaranteed (c)ool for you & auto that is sure to make your next door neighbors really, really jealous! If you have any questions regarding these Nokya bulbs, we're here to help and persuade, lol.

Nice to hear you fixed the idle problem, and I know how it feels if your wife didn't wanted to ride in the car with you. My g/f feels the same now about my car. So hopefully I can figure out why the car's engine is turning off on me while driving.

So what was the procedure for adjusting the idle? The way I see it, there are three things to adjust (TPS, air screw, throttle stop screw), but I don't know what order to adjust them in, and I have no idea where to set the throttle stop.

I have to do this to my car when I get back to Mississippi.

Heheh...my car also has a streetported engine from Pineapple..lol..it was perfectly fine before with the stock engine. Good luck when you get your rebuild back...

paw140...clear as I can say...this is what we did...I'm slightly fuzzy on it, so bear with me. I'm sure turbojeff can add his own comments...

We adjusted the throttle stop screw back to it's factory settings (you should have a white strip of paint for an indicator...I don't believe it was touching the throttle).

Then, we turned the air screw back one complete turn and a half from the closed position.

Then we adjusted the TPS to ensure it was within spec for full open, and fully closed using the specifications in the RX-7 Factory User Manual.

We used the air screw to help adjust the idle, and simply adjusted the TPS up and down to get the right voltages. It was really important to drive it after making the adjustments..because it was slightly different while driving it.

I'd say the key is adjusting that Throttle Position Sensor...that's where you do most of the major adjustments...the air screw and tss are just used for minor adjustments to raise or lower the idle.

I say just screw with it...if you haven't got your idle fixed yet, then it won't hurt any more than it's already doing. It took quite a bit of messing around with it to get it right, but it's not difficult..just a PITA because of all the minor adjustments to get it right.

Oh..and I got those NGK 9's at Schucks.

Cool, thanks. I've been away from my car for the past 6 weeks, and won't be back until the end of May

That's my first priority, to fix the idle. And drive and break in my new engine (I only put 50 miles on it before I left).

I'm glad we got that idle fixed and I'm glad you made it home OK too!

Thanks for the info on the headlights, unfortunately I bought some "SilverStars" a few weeks ago. They are better than the original headlights for sure. Anyone with stock bulbs should replace them. FD headlights suck and need all the help they can get.

Sooo, is the wife happy with the car now?

Jeff
