Y-pipes

How much HP will a Efini Y-Pipe give me? and does it add extra noise to your rx-7 like a bored out muffler?

An Efini y-pipe is simply a more reliable and smoother flowing connection between the turbos and the intercooler. I'm not sure how it's going to add extra noise like a bored out muffler....

Mazda claims a 10 bhp increase with the y-pipe but that's a little hard to believe. You might get that with a pretty modded car.

I installed the Y-pipe on my bone stock FD. I experienced no noticable power change.

It didn't seem like I gained much power from it, but the turbos did seem to spool better.

Mazda claimed 10 hp, and I believe it. I installed an efini y-pipe and my "Cheap Bastard Intake" mod at the same time. My boost went from 12 to 15 1/2. The car accelerated so fast, I couldn't believe it. Of course, a boost controller had to be installed immediately.

The y-pipe is not difficult to install. It fits perfectly with the stock intake. It's not too expensive. It increases reliability by removing the coupler that sometimes fails.

It's a good mod. D'efini'tlely worth doing!

I've got one on mine for the reliability of the connection to the Y-pipe.

You really don't think that a pipe, other than being made from alloy and having a more secure connection to the Y-pipe, is going to give you an extra 10hp, do you???!

Would you like to buy a bridge??

The factory claimes 10 hp more for the engine year model with the new style y pipe, because of internal modifications . And the new design flows better . Has any one noted the restriction of the set up . The front pipe plugs into the back as you know . Look at the front pipes end , it is blunt and the blunt end is in the passing air stream . Garfinkle cuts a taper inside the front pipe to get the blunt end out of the air stream . Every little bit helps in the flow path . Careful not to under cut in to the O-ring groove .

Yes I do believe it. It's flow characteristics are much better. Maybe you should take up your question with Mazda. They did the testing. Do you think they made it up?

Which bridge are you selling, and how much?

I never noticed anything when I installed mine... But who knows.. It's a good reliability mod if nothing else... And you can polish it.

Efini is an excellent reliability mod, but I'm not aware of the bored out muffler noise. As for the 10 hp, well...maybe...it does allow more air flow from the turbos...

I bought the bridge! It's the one between the turbos. It eliminates a restriction in the "Y" section, the rubber hose that fails, and the plastic crossover pipe to the intercooler (now aluminum). It's no noisier than the original. It's a stock part on 96 (I think) and up cars. It's not too expensive. Got mine from Jason. Came with gaskets and fancy acorn nuts. Was -fun- to install. Good for learning about the turbo plumbing.

I think that's all I need to say on this subject ;-).

18 year old, works at a movie theater and owns a FD. What has the world come to if you have to ask a stupid question like if a pipe adds more HP.

I give up.

The only significant advantage I see with the addition of an efini Y-pipe, is one less coupler being one less source of error.
