Question Y-Pipe removal from turbo?

OK, so I'm tring to replace the y-pipe with the efini y-pipe. I removed just about everything but NOW, there are two studs in the turbo that won't let me pull out the y-pipe. How does anyone get the y-pipe out? Any advice, suggestions, or links would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Victor

You've got to remove the rear turbo inlet pipe and then the two pieces that comprise the lower part of the y-pipe.

First, remove all the rubber inlet hoses.

Then remove the rear turbo inlet pipe. You'll need to get under the car and remove 2 10mm nuts, and then a 10mm screw holding it to its bracket.

Next, remove the air pump - loosen the belt by the alternator, loosen the airpump brackets, and take it out.

Remove the crossover pipe.

Now remove all 4 10mm nuts holding the front and rear y-pipe halves from the turbos. Lift the whole y-pipe assembly out together, and gently twist them apart w/o damaging the o-ring. Assemble the opposite way.

aha!!! I was thinking they y-pipe itself come out but you need to remove the whole assembly. Ouchie... lot's of hoses. More digital pictures time.

airpump is off, crossover pipe is off, 2 10 mm nuts are off the y-pipe and turbo. I just need to get under the car for the other two.

Thanks guys,

Victor

Ok, I'm officially a dumbass. I just broke the stud that comes off the turbo to the y-pipe. Is this a stud I can remove from the turbo with broken stud/bolt kit?

Damn it, damn it, damn it!!!! I hate doing stupid **** like this.

well, I stopped working on the car.... I'm going to smoke a cigar and have a beer and then start on the car tomorrow.

Can't you just jam 2 nuts together to back out the two studs?

EDIT: NVM, he just broke one of the studs, so my original post is irrelevant

Maybe not... the nut broke at the top of the y pipe. there is still some left. I'll see if I can get one thin nut and normal nut to fit.

Worst case, last resort, if there is only enough thread for one nut you can clean the threads dry and put the nut on. I guess a shot of brake cleaner or carb cleaner is ideal. Then use Loc-Tite red (DON'T GET IT ON THE THREADS ENTERING THE HOUSING!) to glue the nut to the stud. Wait overnight, and remove the next day. Certainly don't damage the threads before trying this.

Good Idea. If I can get some free time this week I'll do that.

Thanks
