Xenon HID or LED for stock pop ups?

I recently bought a 93 FD13b and it needs a little work. My front right light is out and I’m not entirely sure if I can get a ballast to replace is. Changed the bulb(for $100) and it’s not the bulb. I have the Sakebomb Garage HID light kit installed but can’t find a replacement ballast.

this being said-
1. Do I keep the Xenons and find a new ballast
2. scrap the Xenons and get a LED kit
3. Never drive at night ever again?

any help is very much appreciated

I would call SakeBomb Garage and ask them what the part number is. They may be even able to get you a new ballast

Are you sure it's the ballast? Is only one side working? Switch ballasts and bulbs between sides to make sure that's the problem. That's how I found out my wiring was bad.
Then contact Sakebomb, they got me a replacement wiring harness recently so they will help you get it sorted.

I got a replacement ballast and wired it in myself, Although I'm an electrical type.... I drove mine through a tropical storm and found out the place I put it wasn't as dry as I hoped.

it’s just the front right, front left is fine. I havent switched the ballasts because they’re installed really well and a pain to get to but I’ll have to take the front bumper off to get to them. But that’s next on the list to do tomorrow. I’m hoping it’s not the wiring harness but it’s possible.

you got a replacement ballast for the Sakebomb HID system? Or just a compatible replacement?

Could be the same as me, mine only worked on the driver side, the hi/lo actuator worked on both sides but the light only on the driver. Replacement harness wasn't expensive.

The original GReddy ballasts in my SBG HID setup died (well one did), I replaced both with compact morimoto ballasts from the retrofitsource. I think they were about $60 for both, and about the same size so they fit fine.

My sbg hid had the little box in the harness go bad (not the ballast). It was a 10 cent relay on the circuit board. I took it all apart, desoldiered and changed the relay and all was good again. Figured I'd share...

wow! maybe this is what went bad in mine. I didn't think about taking it apart and ended up getting a new harness

I've replaced the SBG ballasts twice (once under warranty). You don't need an SBG branded ballast, a generic one will work. Wiring can also be found under theretrofitsource.com, I've compared it, and it is exactly the same one SBG uses (the relay box was also included so it's nice to have a spare if yours goes out). Of course, first check with SBG if your parts are still under warranty to get a replacement, otherwise, source them elsewhere.

Switched the ballast and it’s 100% the ballast. Talked to Sakebomb and they’ll send me a new ballast for $45 and $10 for shipping. Very excited, my car won’t be winking anymore.

LED technology has improved so much in recent years not to mention that the costs have dropped quite a bit. I went through 2 sets of HIDs which improved my lighting immensely but I had bulbs and ballasts die on my after a couple years. Purchased a set of LED Hi-Lo bulbs and it simplifed my wiring by ditching the ballasts and simply using the stock wiring plugs. I find the lighting just as good as my former HIDs and it draws much less power and runs much cooler.

Can anyone recommend a good source for LED bulbs that will plug and play with the stock harness?
