One of my customers cars did this when we went and bought it. Right after we drove away the passenger side speaker started emitting that nice electrical smell. We quickly pulled over and put it out. Replaced with new speakers and no problems. I can't remember what he used as replacements. I have Boston Accustics(sp) in my 94 R2. Good job on haveing a extinguisher on hand. I thought I'd never hear of another speaker catching fire

It's a sign from the Almighty that you need to rip out the old system (all of it) and put in a new one

when **** starts to go on fire, id really think about ripping out all the old stuff and replacing them. having your car burn down because of some thing like this would be a horrible loss

I lost my 86 GXL due to a loose wire in the radio, dash caught on fire and didn't have extinguisher nearby. Burned down completely in the 4 minutes it took the firetruck to get there... Sold the engine though but still lost a lot of money.

ive done ALOT of reasearch on speakers because im planning on upgrading... if your not planning on pushing redicilously large amounts of db's then go with some infinity kappa perfect components.

and i would guess that somehow your wires crossed, heated up and sent the old paper cone ablaze.

i think im gonna go with a big system, i have the bose. What are the speakers now? 5.25"? I am going to wait for a while until we get the new Pioneer touch screen DVD in. Then im going to setup a full DTS system in it for fun. I know its stupid, but i work at best buy and get half off all car audio ****, so why not?

i think you have to rewire the whole system since you have a bose audio.. after market unit doesnt work with the stock bose system...

cause the best buy stuff is low quality compaired to whats on the market...

and aftermarket does work with the bose, you just have to power the amps... or bypass them whichever you want

you CAN use another headunit - but the performance is still limited by the crappy factory Bose speakers and the power levels

You want to rewire the entire thing anyways - the speaker cable used from the factory is hardly performance grade, and with more power you will need to run new grounds and power lines anyways

i work there, the stuff is not bad, we get good head units and not bad speakers. I just get the stuff for so cheap that i cant pass it up. I get the new Fozgate HE2 for like 60 bucks. cant beat that

i'm mecp certified...and i used to work as an installer at bb...their stuff blows compared to what else is on the market...some of their head units are coo...but all the rockford and lightning audio garbage for subs and amps blow...rip all the bose mess out...get some boston acoustics or a/d/s if you can afford it...small 2 channel amp to push em...and throw a good 10" in the back (depends on your price range) alpine type r's are decent for sound quality...give it a couple hundred rms watts and you got a nice system....but yes...screw rewiring the bose crap...most of their speakers are 1ohm...meaning you can easily fry a head unit that's only made to drop to 4 ohms...unless you know what you're doing. And as far as the best buy discount...you can get the same discount elsewhere...it's called ebay..=). Have fun kids, and stop settin' **** on fire...lol.

If you have an electrical fire, then deenergize the source and it should go out, unless it has caught something else on fire of course.

I have a panasonic head unit w/ my bose, but, those stock subs suck ***, so ima just get new speakers, i wantd to get subs (might as well...), so i was wondering if anyone has gotten creative and put an 8'' or 10'' in the each of the cubbies behind the seats, i think that would be a pimp place to put them. then mount 2 amps on the door that goes up and down...that would be pimp, but im sure would cost a bit...correct me if im wrong and how much would it cost?
