How old are they for one?

And to add to this question, if it snows, and your forced to drive the fd, and the damn trucks been laying out salt, can that salt rust the brake rotors?

Mine will look a lot like that if I just sprayed Whell cleaner on it. If its actual rust then i dont know but the whell cleaner i use has that effect on my rotors.

The meaning is that you have not driven your car for awhile, or you never use your brakes. Just drive it, use the brakes, and it will be gone in no time.

You may have gotten some salt on them as stated above.

I have seen rust on my rotors the next day after driving in the rain but not to that extreme. Comes off the next day after some braking and rotors are nice and clean.

they're as old as the car is (9-10 years). i haven't driven the car on the salt. it's been garaged since it started snowing.. there was however a significant amount of moisture in the garage the other day.. enough to fog up all three cars and the windows, and make all the rags damp.. that's the ONLY thing i could think of.. even thats kinda sketch.

ive gotten that on my car as well when it has sat for a bit (2 weeks?). when you drive it again it will go away when the pad hits the rotor. i assumed it was just a normal reaction to rainy weather.

My car will get that if I leave it sitting after I wash it. Completely normal, don't worry. That is like a "dusting" of rust. One stop from 20mph and it'll be gone.

My old rotors looked like crap when I took them off. The central hub was rusted pretty nastily.

Hopefully, the new ones won't be so prone to rusting, at least for a few years.

I took of my stock rotors and the hubs were rusted to hell - looked horrible - especially on a nice FD - got some Brembo slotted/drilled rotors and had them cadmium plated - has a nice bronze/gold finish and will never rust - looks awesome. It cost me $50 for all 4 to be treated - well worth it. The cadmium has somewhat of a green tint and zinc plating has a little bit of blue tint.

Ya..the plating is a good thing.

I had mine plated also, I don't care about the pad surface contact area, but I don't want my hubs to rust.

Did you get bigger rotors...or did you get the OEM replacements?

dont worry about it.

over this festive season, my car has been sitting around. its rained a few times and my brakes look about the same...

it will be gone in no time.

mind the scratching sound for the first 10 braking attempts =)
