Bose!

Sort of off-topic but...
I read a New York Times article a few days ago on new technology from Bose.
Apparently, Bose has been doing research on active (auto) suspension. They have worked out a prototype using magnets and elctromagnetic motors(speaker technology).
You can read about it here.

http://www.bose.com/controller;jsessionid=Bt8fo3nM9RtTLV4tGrZZy5HfRIeh tU12RLGOS9FdkFoE8rE11Lvh!-1079314827!1514029475?event=VIEW_STATIC_PAGE_EVENT &url=/learning/project_sound/bose_suspension.jsp&pageName=/automotive/index.jsp

Apparently Dr. Bose, an MIT professor, was interested in this technology in the early 80's.

Honestly, I like mine a lot. I bought my car with a near-fubar Bose system and I revived it. I replaced the door speakers/amps, headunit, center speaker, center amp, and did a little bit of tweaking. I love it. Sure it may not be able to play Gin and Juice so loud that the CHP station 2 miles down can hear it, but it does produce a nice range of frequencies that satisfy my ears.

Looking back, I am really glad I didn't spend the money to get a new speaker setup w/ a massive sub box. I can still take off that divider and fit anything from golf clubs to seal clubs in the trunk, since I don't have a giant sub box in the way.

I replaced my headunit and the Bose system sounds better than ever. My old TII had 6 speakers and a bass tube and it still didnt sound as good as the FDs sound system. People who get in my car cant believe how good the sound system sounds. I like how the snake freaks people out when I tell them its a sub woofer.

I just replaced the headunit/receiver with an aftermarket Alpine unit, and it was the perfect solution for me. I'm actually quite satisfied with the stock Bose system even though it is quite old, but as far as compromises go, the range of sounds (including bass, which is quite important to me) was satisfactory, but my head unit was skipping, lights were blowing, blah blah blah. Spend a few hundred on the headunit, 50 bucks on the crutchfield harness adapter, 5 bucks on an antenna adapter, $70 bucks on a new cubby hole, and voila, solution found.

If you guys are looking for crazy competition sound levels, there are thousands of options and just as many dollars involved.

Just my two cents...
