WTF? How many of you have this in your trunk?

if this belongs in interior forums please move:
But im looking at local FD's for sale and I found one thats quite beautiful (besides a messeg up drivers seat, but will be replaced anyway) and in a picture of his trunk I see this (attachment)
some crazy kind of sub system? id have to guess this is a touring from the bose and leather, but man ive never seen anything like that in an fd, seems kind of pointless. its stock right?

Bose is wonderful for what it's design to do. It's not suppossed to be a boom box BTW, like some people here believe that it is.
I never said it sucked, just pointed out that ten years ago this tubeing was nessasary for the design and today you can get the same sound with less. And that it takes up a bit of the trunk. Bose has come out with some newer stuff that take up far less space cause they figured out how to do it better again. Then again sound is just like beauty, its all in the ear/eye of the beholder.
If you want that "mad thump" look else where at systems. Cause Montego is right, it aint here. But the multi-level sound quality is still good if the speakers are up to it.

K. Just seemed like you where pokeing at me...
While I agree with the comment that it takes up a lot of space, any replacement that will do as well (as a -new- Bose Wave tube) will take up just as much space, though there are many possibilites re shape.
I removed mine and just use four speakers in the stock locations - two in the doors and two in the rear 1/4 panels - properly sealed so they have some volume to work with.
It is also not a "boom box". I'm old, I think they are just silly

No, removing the Waveguide will not effect the rest of the system. Only line level signal is sent to the Waveguide, as well as remote turn on for it's integrated amp.
I've tested the unit with a signal generator. Gets down to 27 cycles before significant roll off. Decent output if the input amplitude id high enough... Drivers need to be stiffened to help output and reduce distortion. This can actually be accomplished by painting the surface of the stock drivers with Polyvinyl acrilimide, which is a model paint clearcoat. I haven't done this yet to mine, though...
Most of the low frequency distortion heard in the Bose system is NOT the waveguide, but rather the door speaker amps being hit too hard. Ultimately, not a bad solution, weighs pretty much the same or less for a system with less frequency bandwidth (still effective to 400 cycles or so), and provides point source for bass, rather than the muffled bump that most enclosure solutions provide.
The head unit, on the other hand, has.. umm... issues?

With some tweaking, that Bose Snake is actually pretty decent.
I always surprise the FD guys. Everyone always tells me they can not believe I still have the fatory Bose speakers.

What's this tweaking you talk about? I want to keep the Bose system. I'm thinking about sending it to be refurbished...
I agree, I like the wave guide BOSE system. I only wish it had more power. The sound is pretty decent. That is why I never considered the speaker pod for gauges, as much as I like the look.
