wrecked or nice?
If it's a straight Track car the blown/ Wrecked one would be a good deal but if you are going to use it for your toy/weekend car getting a cheap one will nickle and dime you to death because you will want to fix all the little things (plastic, trim parts...) so once again it's what you want out of it.
Good luck

If its only $12k I wouldn't assume its nice. If you can find one for $6-8k with only a blown engine, I'd be all over that. But usually ones with blown engines for sale have high miles, crappy point, crappy interior, etc etc. That can get expensive, just restoring an interior costs thousands, same goes for paint. Have you ever priced out a factory leather seat/seat cover? OMG! Mazda must be hiding gold bars in those things. If you're the kind of guy that is annoyed by fading paint, peeling interior panels, cracked leather, etc, let me just say, save your money and buy the nice, low mile car for $20k, you'll end up saving money. If all you need is something fast and fun but it doesn't have to look or drive totally new, get the car with the blown engine and fix it up. My 2 cents...
If I didn't want a car for right now and wanted prodject car, especially one with a highly built suspension, motor, huge turbo. And again if I had another car to drive at the moment so I could take my time fixing it, then I'd get the one with the blown motor.
If I wanted something to drive now, or anytime in the near future I'd get the car in good condition.

I'd wait for the nice one...but one with a blown engine would be okay if you got the cash to build it up (and a daily driver on the side of course). Definitely wouldn't go with the wrecked one - when you say wrecked are you talking frame damage or just damage to body panels, etc.?

Well I already have a FD as a daily driver, I wouldn't mind getting another for track use. In that case I will get the one with the blown motor, since I can import a 3 rotor engine or get a ported engine. The interior and seats? who cares you are going to trash them anyways. For a daily driver that will depend on your preferences. First I would not get a FD with leather seats, I hate leather seats they are too hot in the summer and too cold in the weather (not that I would drive my FD in the winter), you can easily replace them with a set of NICE spacros =)
well it really depends on your preferences.

I would never get one that was wrecked. However, one with a blown engine, definitely.
It really depends on you. If you have a daily driver, then get one with a blown engine. This way you'll know where you stand with the car up front and you can do all the reliabilty things at rebuild time.

With the FD losing value so god damn fast lately I would wait and buy a nice one for $6-8k in a couple months. When I got mine, a good buy was $16k. Not even a year ago, now they are going for around $13k.
