??? I grew up driving on icy roads. I always thought RWD was much safer that FWD. Sure, FWD gets you going quicker but RWD is much safer (talking about manual transmission vehicles). Going too fast on ice and take your foot off the gas and you get
FWD - Front wheels lose traction and you end up in the guardrail or ditch.
RWD - Rear starts to drift which is easy to counter steer for, then give it some gas.

I've never crashed on ice, but if I did I'd have the sense to know I was driving too fast for conditions and not blame it on something else....

ok, either way you want to put it. the car is still wrecked. if it was not a sheet of ice around that turn then i would of been fine so for that reason i am still going to blame the weather that i shouldn't of been out in. that was my mistake

it was not slightly poor weather. a blizzard is about the only thing that could be worse and snow is easy to drive in compared to ice you just get stuck if the snow is to deep only bad thing about it imo

Either way, i hope you get it fixed.
look when i posted it was in jan when i wrecked and i am living in pa now, i moved from jersey in the beginning of jan just haven't changed the forum statis since the divorce and we just got snow out here yesterday it sucks living in the mountains during winters

Later
yes turbos rear wheel drive and a light body doesn't help you out on ice

i did counter steer but it didn't help still slid right into that guard rail. on solid ice there isn't much i know to do (yes let off gas counter steer but other then that i'm done for). I grew up around ice and snow all my life as well living in these mountains all my life but sometimes i guess you just bite it. I've pull it off many times and come close to wrecks more then once in nasty weather. This time just was not one of those times.

EDIT: And I am not just blaming the weather I was in the car driving. I am at fault as well but the weather was the only reason I lost control so yes me not being able to recover the slide was my fault but the reason I went into a slide was not. 25mph on a straight then a quarter of the way around the turn i hit ice. my fault for being out. mining companys fault for the water on the road weathers fault for even more water on road that turned into ice. now are we all done playing the blame game lol?

Dude what do you expect people to say? No one will pat you on the back and say it will be alright, you will get your *** flamed for wrecking an FD! Period! Yeah it sucks and yeah the damage isnt too bad, but your basically saying, "hey guys I fucked up driving my FD in freezing conditions"

Everybody lay off a bit. And those of you who live in areas where 1/2 an inch of snow means chaos on the roads have no idea what it's like to try and control a car regardless of speed on a sheet of ice or black ice. Good luck with the fix.

sorry to hear about the FD but if the Ice thing is true I dont think a front wheel drive car would have helped in your situation any way
also
buy some jackstands I wouldnt get under or pull on a car on cinderblocks thats just asking for more trouble
