hmm.. considering I had a mishap recently (not my fault). You guys should really lay off the age card. The teens (myself) is at higher risk in crashing, but does not automatically tag them as drifting pole crashers. And for the ones that have not driven or own one for that matter, you should not even be commenting on these issues. The power of the fd is addictive and can't be withheld by simple words "I am responsible." Tell yourself all you want that you will drive under the speed limit and follow all the rules, until your behind the wheel you don't know ****. I feel bad for the kid for whatever reason he crashed. After a crash like that its bound to open his eye, so just let it be.

******* idiot kids that get behind the wheel of cars they are simply NOT qualified to operate are EXACTLY the reason the Insurance companies need to do the following:

Charge $10,000 a year just for liability to insure the car if you are under 20 years old, then offer drastic reductions in coverage costs if you stay 'clean' and have no accidents or tickets.

The other thing they need to do is to simply put these folks (regardless of age) that by act and demonstration (meaning they wreck a lot of cars, get a lot of tickets, etc.) on a "black list" where they are deemed "uninsurable" to where they never, NEVER can own a car!

If this is the same wreck that I read/heard about somewhere else kid was merging but apparently was trying to gun it into traffic lost control when boost kicked in and didn't recover. If its not the same person then there is another fd recently that had same type of accident do to losing control when boost kicked in while trying to merge.

While I see your point and understand your frustration, I openly admit I prob am STILL not qualified to drive my FD the way it could be driven, and I've had her for 2 years, and I'm in my 20s. The point being, while many people don't want to admit it, the FD scares the living daylights out of me lol. While I push her every now and then, VERY RARELY to I push her to the limits...cuz operating an FD at the limits is very *very* tricky...it requires a great deal of skill. If anything, it's only after I've been to road courses that I learned just how far I can take my FD, and where *some* of her limits are. Consequently, I STILL don't think I'm "qualified" to operate such a high-performance vehicle WORRY-FREE. And I guess that's my main point. I could push my Honda to the limit all the time, day in and day out...and never break a sweat. But w/ the FD, you have to be cautious, and learn to ease up. Gotta make sure you're not boosting in the turns, don't boost at all in rain, etc etc. So while this may be passing judgement on a large amount of people, I'd venture to say the vast majority of forum members are NOT "qualified" to drive the FD (just ask Rynberg hehe), but are smart enough to exercise the necessary caution in driving one...

The funny thing is, I actually was flaming "Miamidumbass" because he was generalizing and making retareded statements about the kids age and drifting and yet he was the same age.

I could care less about the car or driver. I am not a rotard about FD's. And if the kid was being an idiot when he crashed, I hope he learned his lesson.

Good points. Look, I am 44 and have been driving for 30 years now, in a variety of cars....everything from old school muscle cars to high performance sports sedans to import sports cars. They all have different characteristics and demand different driving styles. The FD is NOT an easy car to drive at 7/10ths or above. The way the power comes on is not linear, it is more of a shotgun blast to the back.
You gotta respect these cars folks.....

i've seen worse damage repaired. 16 year old friend of mine with an 04 WRX spun out and nailed a tree. The back was completely caved in, metal pushed up into the wheel wells, bent rims, no rear windshield, bent frame, broken diff, etc. etc. $12,000 later and a huge insurance increase he has his car back... that FD might be fixable but i doubt the kid or his parents are gonna want to fork over that much cash for such a stupid mistake...

It's not about whether the car is fixable or not...I'm sure a talented body guy can fix just about ANY damage, no matter how extensive. But the question is...do you WANT that car? I personally would say junk it. An FD w/ that kind of frame damage will never feel the same...

Yeah, you fix just about anything with enough time, patience, and money but why bother? The car definitely won't ever be the same with any damage to the unibody/frame. It really sucks but it does mean our cars just got more rare and valuable.

First of all, I am glad to know that no one got badly hurt or kill from this unfortunate accident. In my opinion, a lot of people here is not try to be harsh or generalizing young driver's mentality of driving behavior or having a fast sport car. We are not bullet proof so as the car and there will always be a faster car and better driver out there.

The key point is we want to make young driver aware and knowing the limit and skill before doing crazy thing on the street that part of responsibility of be an adult. Remember Driving is a privilege and we are lucky to be bless with a beautiful and rare car such as the FDs.

For old timers, we also go through young age and the feeling of invisibility at the time so I think base on our past life experience, it is important to point out when some young driver try to put off or show their coolness by do something irresponsible on the street, it is not only risk their life but others as well. On top that, involve in a beautiful FD like this one just make me feel painful.

I guess what I am trying to say is be responsible and if you like to pull off some stunt or learn how to do certain skill, go onto the track or an under control environment.

Damn, thats just painful to look at. That is my dream car sitting there weaping, its crying silently with its big dough eyes "When, when do I drop this hopeless chuckle head and get a chance to so much as be driven right ****, WHEN LORD, WHEN'S GON BE MY TIME!!!!" I'm only 17 and I don't even attempt stupid **** in my N/A FC because I know its just immature and irresponsible. If I ever do get an FD and you see me post that its wrecked, #1. Its probably 99.99999999999999% not gonna be my fault, and #2. You'll soon see my suicide in the newspaper. Some people, oxygen theifs.

The other day I spinned out of the road but didn't hit anything, boosted mid-turn and broke traction. I'm 27 but have owned the car for 3 or so months so i need more experience driving it.

I hate seeing our "rare" cars messed up like that.

Things like these happens way to often when youngsters (such as myself) get behind the steering wheels of moderatly powerful vehicles...

I'll tell you a little story, although it's got nothing to do with this incidents whatsoever:

About a year ago, I'd finally saved up some money to buy my first car (I was 18... The legal age of driving a car in Norway), and I went ahead and bought an '87 VW GTi 16v (139bhp's, mine was tuned to about ~160bhp's). I got my drivers license two months earlier, and was quite fresh in my driving (read: I drove like an idiot) ! The GTi was quite fast, and I wanted to test it in drag racing...

So, I went ahead and did a couple of runs (this is what you would be calling street racing), and in my last run, a very good friend of mine pulled out right in front of me (I was doing ~150km/h at the time), and I didn't stand a chance... So I smashed right into his side, and totalled both cars ! I reckon I was doing like 60-70km/h when I hit him, and that could very easily have gone way worse than it did ! None of us had as much as a scratch ! Both of the cars were pretty cheap pieces of junk, so we didn't care about the cars.. We were just glad we both were alright ! I didn't understand what "safe, responsible driving" was before that day. I NEVER EVER EVER take unnecessary risks anymore. I've learnt my lesson, and I hope that the kid who drove that car has gotten his lesson as well... I bought a new GTi a month later, and I've still got it, haven't had as much as a close call, and I'm proud of it

Oh man, I love the FD and it really hurts to see one in that state ! But accidents DO happen...
