Question Wow I feel dumb but I have to ask...

What is the small canister by the drivers side headlight? I can't get my radiator out w/o taking the two lines that are attached to it off. I think its an A/C thing so I don't want to disconnect anything for fear off losing my freon stuff. I've looked in the FSM and tried a couple searches on here but I don't know the name of it so I don't know what I need to type into my search .

I'm pretty excited once I get the stock rad. off, my Fluidyne rad. goes on followed by my PFS IC and Greddy intakes. Just need to buy a midpipe then its off to the tuner

Thats the piece. Is it ok to disconnect the lines? They bend pretty easy but I don't want to over flex and break them.

That's what I was afraid of. How do I get the F'in radiator out then? Just bend the tubing carefully?

If you disconnect the dryer, you'll need to have the A/C system recharged , not to mention it's illegal the discharge the freon into the air. The radiator comes out from under the car without much drama. Take a look at the service manual.

if you want to leak R-12 into the atmosphere(which is illegal--EPA crap) and will cost about $120 to refil...or if you have R-134A then its ok but you need to get it refilled either way! You can get rad out without removing it.

You can get the radiator out without removing it or taking it apart. You have to gently move it to a position that allows you enough room to do whaterver you need to accomplish.

The radiator on the FD is designed to be removed from the underside of the car. Removing it in that manner means that the AC canister will not need to be moved, and the lines do not have to be bent.

i got my radiator out from the top with a little patience and a little finesse. it really was not too difficult. for me it was easier than jacking the car up and crawling under for two reasons. 1. my floor jack sucks ***** and 2. i already drained the coolant so i couldnt drive onto the ramps.

You can move the a/c drier around by CAREFULLY bending the lines....

Any shop that is authorized to work on A/C systems can charge the system for you. I would not advise converting the system to R134-A, as some people may suggest. It will dramatically reduce the life of your compressor. It is cheaper in the long run to stay with R-12.

If you will look in the FSM, it will show you how to remove the radiator without messing with your A/C lines.

I did look at the FSM but I had read on here that the top was easier to do. I really try to search and answer my own questions before I post so I don't look like an idiot(which I did with this thread ). The amount of knowledge I've gained from my time here(7club and all the smart people in it) is incredible and is a big reason I felt confident enough to buy this car and work on it myself. I really didn't and still don't know jack about cars but it feels great to go learn and be able to install new stuff on my car(even when I need to come here and look for reassurance now and then lol).

As for the rad. install, I ended up just moving the lines gently and everything seems a-ok. I do wish the idiot before me though hadn't stripped the plastic drain plug.

Thanks for ya'll input and help once again.

Removing the radiator from the bottom would be allot more difficult and you'd still have to get the condenser core aout of the way, run the risk of damaging allot more than just tweaking a couple tubes. I did my Koyo install from the top and didn't have to do anything but move the dryer over just a touch, you'll bend more tubing going from the bottom than you will from the top.

That's a lot of info. Too bad you don't know what you are talking about . Mazda didn't design this car so that the radiator would have to be moved by bending anything. Look it up!! Please don't post bad info on this forum, someone might believe you.

Thanks quicksilver_rx7. Don't worry, I didn't plan on converting mine. Anyways, I heard that the R-12 system gets colder.

If you say so. All I know is I removed my radiator and didn't have to do anything with my evaporator core. I hardly think removing two bolts to **** a small canister over bad info. Damn I didn't even have to jack my car up, but to each his own.
