Would you sell your 911 for FD RX-7
Over here the price of both cars are different to what they are in the US, so I cannot comment monetary side of things. But personally, I'd rather own a mildy modded FD than a 911.
For me the main problem with the FD (In comparison to a 911) is that the interior is really lacking a prestige feel ('90s cheap looking plastics). If you recover the dash/door trims etc in leather & respray the plastics properly you can resolve this issue, though

Pretty common misconception about the Porsches. They are pretty reliable, the NAs are a pretty cheap car to own all around.

.Build quality in and out is night and day but that's also why they retailed for 30k more.
Personally I get more satisfaction from driving a car than worrying about dings, rattles, spaces in door panels or iterior quality to really care. As long as it's money in and out of the corner I'm happy
When I get a chance I'm going to start a thread on the FD and reliability because I'm tired of people questioning the reliability of this car or the fact that it shouldn't be daily driven etc....

I am going to daily drive the car if I get one. Any car can be daily driven by the right person. BTW I'm a 27 year old that works on Porsches for a living, I don't own a fortune 500 company. I fell into this car. I was able to rebuild because I got it cheap. A 9X6 car that needs engine work is not worth much. A Porsche reman engine before I install it is 18,000. So I was at the right place right time(aka at work). If fact I spent more on the machining and parts then I did on the actual car. And I would not say that a 996 C2 is a cheap car to maintain but it's not as expensive as a turbo or a GT car. Compared to other sports cars they are very close in price. I'm sure FDs are the cheapest cars to maintain either. I will agree that the 9X6 cars interiors are "out dated" but Porsche's Motto is "Evolution not revolution" so in a sense it's suppose to look like it older brethren. I trying to buy a house soon so I need to start gettin rid of the some of the toys.
Customers used to cringe when I would tell them they needed to drive the car more quit gettting out of the throttle at 5500 rpms. Reliability has come a long way with these cars. Drive mine all time, even though the clutch just started slipping. Cant exactly blame that on the rotary though.
They aren't lol I have to send Flynn monthly mails with list of things that broke on my car haha , I DD mine though and I'm actually fine with it . being DD I lay off the throttle till its warmed up then I'm gtg . gas isnt exactly the best . but I work 5 miles from home so its not all that big an issue .

The majority of these cars have over 100k miles so naturally a large number of parts are wearing out or have worn out and will need to be replaced but once the car is sorted out, modded and tuned properly they don't require much more than oil changes and LOTS and LOTS of gas.
I have owned two Porsche's, a 928 GTS and a 911 Turbo. The Porsche's are built far better but I owned both at the same time. I have always owned an RX-7 even when I owned the Porsches so I didn't choose. Both fun cars ...

I drive it up to 80 miles daily, and it runs like a Swiss watch.
The learning curve can be steep though.
It sounds like you have been chasing this dream for a long time. No matter what kind of dream you have I say go for it. It can be a car or climbing a mountain or even marriage. It is better to live your dreams than not to. I say sell the 911 and buy an FD. I have owned my FD for 7 years and I would never sell it. For me nothing compares to it because I love it.
I say YES! You're very fortunate to be able to realize your dream. For the kind of money your 996 would sell for, you can get yourself a minty FD. If the FD doesn't quite live up to your expectations, you can sell it later without losing too much money.
FD was also my dream car so I got one as soon as I was able to afford it. It's hard to believe that was over 10 years ago! I still have my FD, but haven't driven it much since I bought a 996TT 3 years ago... Porsche is just a much better all round car, but FD is very special to me.

i never said that it cant be a daily driver due to reliability.. but due to Fuel consumption
Strange feeling these tiny un-economical cars bring out isn't it? If nothing else get the FD, if you don't like it they are not that hard to sell. At least then you know that you tried you dream out. You'll never know until you own one.
being that you have a couple of porsches i would sell one and get an fd. i just bought one mine has a corvette motor in it because im not a fan of the rotary but GOD THE FD IS AN EPICALLY SEXY LOOKING CAR!!

make a friend with an FD and do a wife swap. otherwise sell the porsche and get an FD. FD is not for everyone but i can tell you will like it and probably keep it till you die. im saving for a house too

Porsches are very good cars, built properly, last a lifetime (not racetrack but that goes for every car).
Parts are expensive though.
But, from a Porsche to a Mazda?
I would understand if you went the other way.
I also don't get it why the hell your dream car is an FD but still, you own TWO Beatless* instead!
