would a silencer prevent boost spike?
would a silencer prevent boost spike?
jus curious. i currently have an m2 ecu, dp, arc intake and apex gt spec. i usually see my boost at 1 bar then drops down to .9
after work today i decided to put on my silencer and didn't see it go pass .9, jus went to .8 i believe but i still have to try and see if it still goes to 1 bar on a cold night, i guess i'll try it to see it in the morning

NOPE.
And u better get ur wastegate ported.
I had a clogged high mileage main cat fail me and let the boost spike to 15psi with a stock ECU.
Trust me, it will only spike more and more.
On the flip side, u will think that ur FD is getting stronger and stronger.

You don't need the wastegate ported to prevent boost spikes.
A boost spike is simply the wastegate solenoid not responding fast enough. This is where boost controllers come into play.
Boost creep is when the wastegate is already doing all it can but still can't control boost. That's when you need to port the wastegate or add some restriction to the exhaust.

o ok, j/w
i will be porting my wastegate pretty soon but i've been driving my car now for a yr (10K miles already) now with the same amount of boost as a daily driver and its been running great. i jus got the m2 ecu about 2 months ago but i will be porting my wastegate wen i install a new clutch hopefully next month

I can speak on this from first hand experience. I had an intake, downpipe and boost controller. When I added my Apexi GT-Spec exhaust, I would get boost spikes all the time. Putting the silencer in the exhaust reduced the flow enough to keep the boost in check. I ran this way until I got my wastegate ported. So yes, it will work.
It's also hard to say - one brand of resonated midpipe might help spiking, another might not. I wouldn't take this as an across-the-board truth about resonated midpipes.

well if it is spiking getting a boost controller would solve it like mahjik said you dont need to port your wastegate unless it creeps
1 bar is way too much on a stock modified ecu and stock injectors IMO I dont even run that with a single for daily driving
