would this be a safe set up...?

so I have a 100% stock car right now. I actually just ordered a pair of intakes and a SMIC. this Friday I will be ordering a PFC. The car has 89k original miles right now but I plan on getting that rebuilt soon and replacing the downpipe when I do that as well. my question is, is the above setup safe and if so what kind of power increases should I see. As far as the rest of the exhaust....would I REALLY need to replace that? the reason I ask is because I don't want a loud car so im trying to stay away from that if possible. I know ill need to get a boost gauge as well which I don't have either. one more question, if I ever do choose to get a boost controller and up the boost, what is the highest/safest level I can set my boost to and still be safe. thanks in advance guys

I think Fritz's thread from last year is an awesome read for beginners.

Start here:

Not getting a boost / water gauge would be a bad idea unless you want to pop the motor when you start tweaking it.

Spend some time reading the FAQ thread stickied in this forum so you can educate yourself about archived knowledge. Knowledgeable people aren't going to comment on info you can get yourself with minimal effort.

If you have the stock pre-cat on there, I'd replace that before I'd do intakes but you may need the intake to pair with the intercooler. You probably don't need the PFC til you remove the stock pre-cat. The pre-cat should be enough to keep boost in check at 10 PSI. 10 to ~12 psi is about all the stock fuel system can support iirc. Check the FAQ.

you do have a boost gauge right?

the above intake / SMIC setup will be safe even with the stock ECU . intake and SMIC will not increase the flow enough to make you worry about boost creep . and the stock ECU is pretty good and safe. when you rebuild and open up the exhaust some . then a PFC and a tune . are recommended. as for quiet exhausts ,

try and use the search function for quiet exhausts you are not alone in wanting a nice quiet exhaust and alot of people have asked what aftermarket exhausts dont leave you deaf so thats a good place to start .

BUT if you really want some more power out of the car yeah i think an aftermarket exhaust is in your future .

Wouldn't it be better to change out some plastic tube into aluminum pipes first?

what is the correct term for the plastic hose/pipe that comes out of the intake side of the turbo and goes to the intercooler....the black plastic tube/pipe on the top of the motor. I think that may be the only new one I need. I believe the IC I got comes with everything else ill need. I should have it tomorrow so ill know for sure then.

Compression tube I believe.
If you get the 99 y pipe kit, it comes with it.

I need to know the correct term for tube after throttle body. They say elbow but there should be something else after elbow as well

Buy an efini y pipe and down pipe. That'll cure half your worries.

Its made of metal and it bolts up so you don't have to worry about any cracks in the plastic hoses. Also does not flex.

he's talking about crossover tube. For 99 spec, they implemented metal crossover pipe in metal instead of plastic that are installed in ours.

Also 99 spec y pipe is little different shape than what we use.
Some thread said y pipe alone (or both) adds 10 hp, but seems like it hasn't be proved???
