would bad belts be my prob?

I just installed an efini Y-pipe. I had to take off the air pump. So the belts came off too. Now I just tryed starting it and it squeaks incredibly loud. I can tell its coming from one of the belts. I tried loosing them and tightening them. What could be my problem. Also the pulley all the way at the bottom ( the big one that holds both belts doesnt seem to want to spin ) Sorry I dont know the pulleys name. Could that be my problem, or maybe bad belts? But there were no problems with belts before I took them off. Does anyone have a diagram on how the belts are supposed to be put on, maybe i put them on worng but i really dont think so. Its really the only way they could go on but maybe the diagram would help.

Try removing the belt, turn it 180 degrees and install it again! Worked for me.

You mean take off the belt and turn it around? Or do you mean turn the pulleys 180 degrees? I dont get why now they are making this sound and I am perty sure its not coming from the belt that goes to the airpump. Its coming from the other one. It seems like the bottom pulley just does not wanna spin. And when I start the car it makes the loudest screetching noise. Well I'm gonna try flipping the belt. Any other hints. I would still like to see a diagram of how the belts were suposed to be put on. But i really dont think i put them on wrong.

OK I finally got it to stop sqeaking. I added a little oil to the lower pulley. But It still squeaks a bit when I start it up. I loosened the belt a bit, it felty kinda tight. Is this normal or what am I doing wrong?

Any ideas? It still sqeaks but only for like 30sec. then it stops. Unless i add oil before I start it. Im thinking about replacing the belts now and maybe getting the Greddy kit. Can someone help me out please.

Did you spill anything, like coolant onto the belts?

When I had a coolant leak, it spilled on the belts. It squeaked when I first started the car for about 3-4 days until it wore off...

How much deflection are you seeing in your belt? If it's too tight, you'll wear out your water pump.

I think Brede meant taking the belt off, flipping it inside out and trying it on again. How old are the belts? Maybe they were old and got stretched while you took it off? Maybe new belts are needed?

One of the belts are new. I might have spilled some soolant on it or something else, maybe sweat. I was working on the car for a long time before I got that Y pipe in. So do you think it is bad to run the car if the belts are sqeaking when I start it?

Not necessarily. I would let it squeak for a few days and see if it goes away. If it doesn't replace the belts (that aren't new).

I think I'm gonna order a greddy pulley kit and replace the other belt. I now hate that airpump after the Y pipe install. Just dead weight. I'll let you all know how it goes. Anyone know part # for the other belt. Not the one that goes to the airpump?
