Worth it to Repaint?

I just picked up a 93 r1 that was originally black on black but the exterior has been painted montego blue. I was just wondering if repainting factory black would help increase its value. Thanks for everything!

P.S. This is my first Rx7 so I am learning along the way

Wow, hard to believe - this is the least popular FD colour.

A good quality complete paint job is about $4-$5k. If the paint on the car is not faded or damaged then a colour change will add no value; if the paint is very bad, a repaint may add $1k-$2k.

Well considering a good MB colored FD might sell for a grand less than a black one, I say no.

If the paint is in crap condition or really obviously a color change, then your car would be worth *less* than an original MB and it could actually be worthwhile. I know if I were buying I'd be hard pressed to buy a car with a half-assed color change.

Yeah it just needs a little touchup paint, but it was really well done when it was first done, covered the jams and the engine bay. Since I dont really know the value of the r1's I didnt know if it would be worth it. Thank you all for the replys.

i would just say if you are keeping the car for a long time then why are you concerned at all about resale value? if you like the blue keep it but if you like black and plan to sell it then paint it. its only worth what someone is willing to pay, and yes a color-change decent quality paint job will run a minimum of $4000+ so the decision to paint a car you plan on keeping shouldnt be because of the value to someone else.

i reckon that cars that have had a respray are harder to sell. I know i would be suspicious of buying a resprayed car. Im not saying that its a bad car though. I like montego blue better than black!

If they did the engine bay then it sounds like a good job!

Can we see some pics?

Lol no I am not going to sell it, I was just wondering about what it would be worth with black on black because the guy that sold it told me that I was getting a really good deal because the black ones are worth more so I was getting a pretty good deal.

I picked up a 93 R1 edition that was a rolling chassis that I am going to drop a reman engine into. I will get you some pictures soon, sorry I haven’t had any time seeing as how I have been working like crazy over the new year and I am finally going to graduate school. I will put some pics up though so you all can see it once I get my camera up to Portland to the garage I have it held up at. Thanks again everyone for the replies I really appreciate your knowledge.
