Worth buying?

Was looking for an extra motor so when im ready to go single i can just send out that motor to get it ported or rebuilt if needed instead of having my car down and a friend of my brothers said he knows someone selling a short block

he said $600 for his 13b-rew 3mm apex seals

housings have slight port job

fresh bearings

he said it needs coolant seals and side seals,

Is it worth it or should I just keep looking?

Way too many variables, and you won't really know until the engine is torn down. I've seen many 'good just rebuilt' short blocks that ended up being 95% garbage.

Why is the person selling it? Who milled the 3mm slots for the apex seals? Was it professionally ported? How many miles on the hard parts? Did they replace the metal oil scrapers? Why does it need side seals, and how do they know this?

Seems like an endless amount of questions, but before you spend your hard earned cash on something like this they need to be answered

If it's local you could try and have the engine torn down before you buy it. It's going to have to come apart regardless so it might as well be before you pay for it.

For $600 you are gambling...if he breaks it apart and everything is good he could ask $1200
