They're actually a pain in the *** to source parts for because Mazda made changes to the PS, ABS, AC and other crap on them without really documenting when and why.

being a 95 makes it worth a little more to those who are collectors (myself being an owner of a 95)

people can bitch all they want about the difficulty of sourcing parts, but if difficulty is something you cant handle, then I don't suggest a FD in general.

If i were you, and the guy doesnt budge on the price. just keep asking every week or so to see if the guy lowered the price, and if he wants to sell at a lower price to give you a call first.

eventually he'll budge.

 

$27k? Nah. If it was a R2 model, hell yeah! I'd say no more than $23-25k. 95s definitely have more value to em do to rarity. I'd like a clean low mileage 95 if I could find a black one. Lmk if u decide to take the a/c system off tho. I'll gladly take it off ur hands.

 

It's $24,991 as per craigslist. It was $25,991 last week.
After taxes and licensing/reg, it's over $27,000. I know they won't take $20,000 for it cuz I went in and asked about pricing. I didn't even realize it was $27,500 on eBay.

It's pretty clean, but makes a funny pooping sound when you rev it. After-fire maybe? According the listing, the PFC is pre-programmed with tune (intake/IC/dp/exhaust) but it's missing the IC upgrade thus running rich.
Can anyone get ahold of Ivan and verify he did look at the car? I've been reading a lot about "Ivan of Sunnyvale" and I hear he's been doing great work since '92
Also, there's some oil residue on the plastic IC pipe coming off of the y-pipe.

If it is the one in the link that DVO posted I thin I sold that guy that car about 4-5 years ago. If you got it for $24500.00 I actually think you paid right around market value. I dont ever see these cars as high end collector cars, but I do see some of the rare color combo low mileage cars bringing a premium in the future.

The car in the link DVO posted has some high end parts that are worth around $5-6k which makes it that much better of a deal.

 

I would consider paying that much for an R2 or an extremely low mile touring car. I don't think this car is worth that much. I do think that 95s deserve a substantial premium over the 94s and below though.

Too much. I also think 95 prices are not much different than 94 prices. The are almost no differences between the 2 cars. There were many changes after the 93s.

 

Finding clean low mileage cars is getting very hard now and the prices for such cars have gone up and will continue. How many FD's do you see w/ less than 60K now days?

The car is only worth what the buyer will pay and in most cases w/ FD's it has to be a cash purchase, which is the real reason we see the lower prices.

Will the car become a collector? It sure has a good chance of it. Do you think they thought the muscle cars were going to sell for 6 figures at BJ in the early eighty's? I doubt it.

I'd like to see someone pick up a 30K mile FD for $17-18K. Not going to happen in 2011 or in the future for that matter.

If you feel comfortable w/ it then do it. In the end it doesn't matter what a forum says. If you are happy with the purchase then that is what matters. It's your money.

 

Unless you in intent to keep the car as a collector car, then it may be worth the extra $$$ for a low mileage 95. But most people buy RX7s because they love how fun the car is to drive and customize it to their taste. I personally would rather pay extra to build a solid FD of my choice, then to pay that much more just to have bragging rights of having a 95. Just look at some of the awesome FD on the forum, most are 93 and 94.

 

This thought process blows my mind. You would turn down the car because it has $5k worth of mods that only better the car? I dont study collectors cars because I think it is the biggest waste of time and money I have seen in teh car world, worse than "show cars" even.

 

Gordon, good point, but bear in mind I bought my FD just before the housing market and decided to crumble... so I bought when the prices were higher, but my car would have (and probably still will) commanded 18K regardless.

I have actually been suprised how many FD garage queens are still out there. I know of three 3rd gen owners who have FDs that just sit with less than 20K miles. One of these days I am going to offer to buy one of them or all three from each

Regardless, I still think 25K is too rich for a low mileage stocker with a great color. I would pay maybe 21K (pushing it) for a very low mileage 95 FD if it had a few tasteful reliable mods and the original parts were still included. Having owned one, it is great to still see all of the proper pieces in the proper places when you work on it, but at the same token, unless I would leave it stock, it is just more money. Don't get me wrong, i would love to see the value of these cars jump, but i just don't think a large extra cost for a 95 is worth it. A slight increase I would pay, for a 95 vs a 94, yes, but we are talking maybe a 5% premium.

These cars are not what they once were, but low mileage silver, white and CYMs will continue to bring $3-4k over the other cars. 95 R2s will continue to bring a premium.

 

I was fairly lucky (I think). Picked up a 94 with 37,000 in great condition for 10k, locally. It is bone stock though, except the exhaust, so I will end up funelling a lot more $ lol.

 

got my 94 with 38k miles on it 2 months ago for $11,400. Front mount, PFC, Injectors, Steve Kann tune, clean as **** never wrecked and i'm the third owner. Ran just fine all the way from florida to north georgia to texas, damn fuel pump went out last week.

The second owner brought to CT, then to CA. That owner sold it to a dealership or is having the dealership sell it for him.
It's got some expensive parts, but I'm worried about the engine. I understand that there rotaries aren't too reliable. I've been trying to do some searching and have been trying to figure out this whole rebuild thing.

I just want to make sure I'm not paying too much for this car. I have a different car background and know much much more about supras *puts on flame suit*.

The only stock parts it'll come with is the ecu. I'm just really worried that the PFC might have been tuned wrong. Anyone in the bay area that could give me a second opinion? * cough cough.... IVAN*
