but whoever told u to tow it front up... needs to be bitch slapped.
nope, of course it was on neutral... I couldn't have towed it rear up because of the front wheels don't lock straight, they only lock at an angle

can anyone see the original pics that I posted?? if not, can someone host them for me??

Beautiful car! I did the same thing in January from Houston to San Diego except I drove back (couldn't resist). My leg was killing me by the time I pulled into the garage ('94 R2, no cruise...obviously) but it was a fun trip. Now she sits quietly waiting for me to install the $2000+ in parts I've since purchased. My bank account doesn't like me very much right now but it's all worth it!
If you don't like your bra I'd be willing to take it off your hands since I can't afford to fix the damage on the front bumper at present.
Any way CONGRATULATIONS!

link still isn't working for me...It's all good though....

But anyways your trip reminds me of mine too.

I travel from Sacramento to Utah to get my FD. total of 1200 miles. But when drove the FD back, it's only 600 miles...

Congrat. on a "Super Clean FD"

If you look int the owners and/or repair manual it says to tow from rear wheels or if you lift the fron then the rears should be on tow dolly's. I have no idea if tow dolly's can go on the freeway. I hope the car made it ok.

Sweet! Already California-plated? Or did you install them on the way? Any troopers give you grief when towing a non-plated vehicle?

I hope your not talking about something which you know nothing about, oh wait you are.

It is fine to tow a FD like that. I've towed probably 14 of them like that up to 950 miles in one day.

Turbojeff, thank you! Quite a few people have been telling me that towing the car that way would mess it up... so I got really nervous about and spoke w/ as many rotary shop owners as possible before going on the trip... I'm glad someone knows that it's okay to do this.

I just checked the owner's manual. It says NOT to tow using sling type equipment (where a crane hooks to the front end of the bumper/front underbody) but instead to use a wheel lift (what I used) or flatbed.

If the transmission is a manual, then no problem.

If it's an Auto then I'd be getting it checked out before driving too far - most auto's only tow for 30-40 miles before breaking...

Nice car

i work for uhaul (rent those dollys) and we NEVER recommend a RWD vehicle being towed on a tow dolly, and if so we INSIST the rear drive shaft be pulled... you should sprung the extra couple bucks for the auto transport (all 4 wheels off ground)... ah well regardless

beautiful car! congrads

It is all about liability, Uhaul does not want to distinguish between autos, manuals, different makes and models. It is SAFE to tow a FD with manual trans with a dolly.

Yeah, all that will happen is the axles, diff and driveshaft will spin at the same speed as if the car were being driven. It puts practically no wear on the parts though because there are no loads going through them; they're just coasting along.
