AZ Wont Go into Reverse

Did a search, nothing really came up like my problem, close but not really.
car is a 5spd, Exedy 6puck, B&M short shifter, sold transmount and diff mount, kaaz 1.5 LSD.
The car shift find in all gears, 5th has a slight grind but only sometimes, will not go into reverse, no matter how hard i try. it did it before sort of, it was hard to get it but work non the less. anyhow it will not go in at all, i drove it and all gears work perfect, except no reverse. I took the top part of the shifter out and did not find anything wrong, put everything back and try to get the car warmed up but still it will not go into reverse.
I bought the car 3 weeks ago and the transmission was replaced right when i got it, any idea what it might be?

your 5th gear synchro is gone, you need to order a synchro and reverse hub. Are you in Tucson? I'm in Goodyear and i would be happy to look at it to tell you for sure if you ever come up this way.

I'd guess the loose bits of broken 5th are jamming reverse.

This is correct, I did the same thing about a year ago. It's fun job to fix, definately more work than a 5th gear syncro fix, but not too bad. Once tranny is out of the car 2-4hrs with proper tools.

when i tore mine apart it took about 3 and half hours, and i replaced the chewed up reverse hub and the 5th gear synchro. I called rotary performance and they sell a 5th gear synchro kit.. which includes the reverse hub. the chunks of the synchro chewed the hell out of the reverse hub.

Can you please delete one of the items in your sig? It's a bit too big.

Also, do JDM trannys match up to USDM engines? Just a question.

yeah the jdm spec trans will mate up to the uspec, direct bolt on and it does not have the faulty 5th gear syncro, also They are identical to USDM except .796 5th unlike the .806 USDM 5th.

i replaced the bad parts for under a 100 dollars including overnight shipping of the parts. not really hard to do, as long as you know your way around the internals in the tranny. or im sure you could find someone that does know what they are doing, and they would be able to do it fairly cheap, or maybe even a case of beer. I would have no problem doing it, but im steadily busy with my business and a kid. I might be able to find someone that could help you if you want.

i wish you were closer FD3Smaniac, i dont alot of other work but never any transmission work. i just gave in and am going with a Jspec 30k mile transmission, rather skip the headach. probably going to check out the old trans and sell it cheap or fix it and sell it.

when you get your tranny fixed or you feel like making a drive, we can go up to the pavilions in Scottsdale. Awsome car cruise every saturday night, so many cars up there. A few weeks ago we hit it up and we ended up taking some spirited runswith a couple FD owners. Great guys... fast cars.

just send me an e-mail or pm if u ever feel like coming up this way.
