wiring things to battery
i was told it was a bad idea to wire things directly to the battery such as the starter and the fuel pump and things like that. is doing this for the purpose of putting a switch to turn the things on and off a bad idea?
just to be clear, the goal of this is to be able to start the car by turning the key to II then flipping a switch for the fuel pump then another for the starter. please no responses of "why do you want to do that? why dont you just (blah blah blah)". i would just like more information on this please....

You just need to use some kind of a relay/fuse between the battery and whatever you're powering to be able to regulate the voltage. It's basically a safety precaution for voltage spikes and such.
You don't want to be blowing up fuel pumps and starters every couple of months from having it directly on the battery.

It's perfectly safe, and actually more reliable than the stock wiring, especially for the fuel pump. A lot of people including myself have their fuel pumps wired directly to the battery because it gives higher and more consistent voltage to the fuel pump than you would get through the factory wiring.
The starter I have wired how it comes from the factory, but It's no different, it's all safe as long as you put in a proper relay/fuses to not blow it.

Thats great news. Would you happen to have a write up or something on the proper way to do it? How would i determine what size fuse or type of relay i would need? And the gauge of wire?

You can find information here in my battery relocation write-up.
However, unless you are relocating your battery I am not sure why you would want to install a breaker between the the battery and the starter - unless you just want a cutoff switch.

ive seen that already, a long time ago. my battery is already in my trunk. i have back seats. your amazing write up says how to do everything but what i'm asking. the goal is to be able to start to car without the key... 3 switches maybe. power, fuel, starter.... unless im missing something...

Here is an old (and not particularly clear) thread that may give you some ideas:
