Winter is almost here time for storage

Hate to say it but winter is around the corner for us Canadians. This is my First FD and I owned it for 8 months now. The previous owner told me to follow these procedures below for storage. I thought I ask you experts before I do so. Thanks!

fill the block with automatic transmission fluid it will prevent it from carbon build up, the rotary is known to seize up from carbon build up so all u need to do is pull the plugs and put it in threw the park plug holes.

also make sure not to drive it in anything below zero they tend to flood themselves and they are not fun to get goin!

also just so u know for spring there is a plug in the bottom of ur block put the specificlly for the draining if the storage fluid. besides that theres nothin else u need to do except drain the gas. old gas will most definitey cause detonation 9 outta ten times in a rotary. a knock sensor is key too in those things ,a must have.

I don't think filling the block with ATF is a good idea at all. Fresh engine oil drain/replace is fine. Carbon builds up in the combustion chamber due to driving, not the oil passages when the engine isn't running. If the car sits still then carbon won't build up. If you want to be super **** about it, pull the plugs and pour a tablespoon of ATF into the plug hole and spin the engine without starting it. Then by spring you may have a slightly cleaner combustion chamber. But I don't think it's a big deal.

I don't know of any reason why it would tend to flood more in cold temps, except if the engine has an issue specifically causing it.

Old gas is not a good thing, but using a fuel preservative works quite well. I'd leave 1/4 tank with preservative in it and not worry. Also a knock sensor does little to stop detonation in this car except suggest when it's time to do a compression test. Knock sensors don't really enable additional protection.

So to sum up, put in a fresh change of normal oil, put preservative in the fuel, and that's it. It's fine to leave the ATF on the shelf.

Our winters get to about -35 degrees Celsius which I think is equal to -31 Fereheit. Its really freezing and I heard that things dry up in this wheather. So when I park it all I need to put fuel stablelizer thats it right? I dont need to start it everymonth or what ever. It will be parked for a minimum of 7 months. Also reading in the link posted above it says to spray Fogging oil in the intake. I think that would be a good idea.

-35 with a windchill maybe... thats about what we get for a week if that. where i live we also get that for a week, then chinook which puts us at only -5 and all the snow melts, its fucked up,but sweet at the same time. anyway.all i am doing is filling gas up full. and flushing my coolant and filling some with antifreeze.and start it up whenever it is nice out.

Wow. I didn't read the entire link above. I stopped at the suggestion of Cosmoline. ?? And as far as a long cold winter, did you notice where KaiFD3S is located?
Personally, I just change the oil, fill the tank up with fresh gas. I've never had issues with gas going bad in any of my cars, but if some fuel stabilizer gives some peace of mind, it's not expensive. Get it completely up to operating temp before parking it....and I guess it's a good time to check your anti-freeze ratio. Disconnect battery. On jack-stands preferably, but no e-brake. Block wheels if on ground. Mothballs in an old dish or bowl in the engine compartment and interior if rodents are a threat. The odor is minimal and it will air-out quickly in the spring.

I am in Calgary and I store my FD each winter. In Nov I give it a wash, change the oil, fill up the tank, disconnect the battery and put a cover over it. Its good for five months. On April 1 I take the cover off, reconnect the battery and fire it up. No problem.
