Winshield wiper switches/relays messed up?

When I move the arm for the winshield wiper controls down to intermittent, the wipers just move constantly as if it were at speed 1. Then when I put it to speed one, the speed just stays constant. Then when I put it to speed 2, it speeds up just a TEEENY bit. Believe it or not, I do get annoyed when I want intermittent wiping instead of constant. I tried filddling with the speed dial for the intermittent setting but no luck. On light rain, I prefer intermittent.(Go ahead and call me weird if you feel like I am ) I hate pushing the momentary switch(pushing the arm toward the dash) every now and then. Are there ways to troubleshoot/fix this problem? Do I just have to get a new wiper control arm? Advice?

The circuit is pretty simple - all the logic for the wiper speed is in the wiper switch, which I believe is part of the stalk. Should be easy to find a good used one.

So I have to remove the old arm and its unit, and just replace it with a new/used one? And everything will be ok?

I replaced my wiper/turn signal switch (known as the combination switch) to cure my intermittent, intermittent wiper problem.

Not cheap (+$200), but it did fix it.

Pretty easy to change out.

Pull the bag & steering wheel. Remove the steering column cover & a couple screws hold the combination switch in place. Unplug the harness under the dash & it's out.

A new combination switch has the clock spring pre indexed.
If you buy a used one you need to center the clock spring.

So the turn/headlight/wiper arms are all one unit inside the steering column? Is it easy to center the clock spring? If so, I'll just get a used one and center the spring.
