a few questions...

new to this website. im lookin for a car. currently im in a little miata. the rx-7 has always caught my eye. the one thing i really dont like about the car is the engine. now the only reason why is because i dont know squat about rotary engines. well i know very little. i would like to look at the 3rd generation rx-7. whats a reasonable price? year? how do these rotary engines hold up? not to many mechanics work on them around here so most of my engine work would be done by myself. thanks.

If you don't know squat about rotary engines, this forum just became your new best friend - search and you shall find.

Price: Can't help you, I'm in Australia.

Year: I think 94/95 had some fixes on a few minor issues, and possibly the engine fire related TSB's. I wouldn't weight your decision too heavily on the year of the car.

How do they hold up: As well as you look after them. The three biggest enemies of the rotary are detonation, overheating and ignorance. I've heard stories of properly cared for stock engines lasting 200'000kms. I've also heard of improperly cared for stock engines lasting less than 50'000kms.

PS - non usage of the search function results in serious flaming from other forum members.
