I have a 93 fd, if I would remove the stock wing, would that affect stability at high speeds?

 

Depends on how high the speed is, and which wing it is. A stock R1 wing supposedly does about nothing for stability, although it's only what I have read on here and I don't have any documentation to back it up. I believe the 99-spec wing is supposed to make a difference, but until you hit a turn at about 130mph or so I doubt anyone could tell.

 

You'll never notice it missing on the street at legal speeds.

 

But the hatch struts will work much better when you remove the wing.

 

LOL Yea, watch your face when you pop the hatch. My friend removed a wing on his car (Non-FD) and now his trunk fly's open fast because it has less weight to move...

It's not going to affect it much at all, really. Only on extreme conditions on the track is when you'll notice perhaps a difference in how "planted" the rear feels.

I'd say the difference is very minimal between wingless vs. stock. Putting on a GT (Mazdaspeed) wing may be a bit different, and would make sense if you have a track car like Damian has (makes no sense for the street unless you just really love that look...)

 

I don't have the wing on mine and it has had no effect on high speed stability (have done high spped runs with and with out) speeds of 140+mph the car still felt more than controlable. I'd have to assume your talking straight line runs as the street isn't the best place to road course the car.

 

The rx7 is pretty much planted at high speeds (within reason of course).
Im wingless and have been up to 150 on a long downward slope bending turn on the freeway.

Have faith. Be more worried about your tires.

 

I am curious what the legal speed in Belgium is? There is not much of a noticable difference, if any difference at all, between the R1 wing and having no wing.

 

There really isn't any difference at all with or without the wing. Only asthetic (sp?). As xCadex said, be more worried about your tires before anything.

 

The legal speeds in Belgium... about 50 mph on normal roads, 30 in city centres and 70 mph on highways...
My tires seem to work really good, rain or no rain, my car sticks to the road :-)
