Windshield Cowl Leak

I have traced a leak on my passenger side to the windshield cowl area. The end of the cowl is slightly bent upwards away from the windshield. Water is leaking in through what seems to be the HVAC unit under the dash and doesn't seem to be coming down the firewall from what I can tell.

I haven't been able to find a decent schematic of what to look for under the cowl and don't want to mess around with a $350 trim piece unless absolutely necessary. Has anyone had this problem or been under the cowl to let me know what to look for as a problem area?

TIA!

Are you talking about the plenum at the base of the windscreen (exterior)? Nothing too hard about removing the grille if so, just the usual push pins. One of the cars here has it removed, I think there's a drain in the far corners which can be blocked with leaves etc. Dash removal on the other hand, is where you can break stuff, if the usual heater core end-tank failure occurs.

Yes its the plastic trim at the base of the windshield that covers the wiper motor area...unfortunately their is no visual access to that side. I sprayed a decent amount of water in there to try to flush out any debris and it seemed to be draining fine.

Decided to remove the abs module and finally install my delete kit so I can inspect the engine harness grommet without wanting to hang myself in the garage

Leaks from the cowl are uncommon to impossible. I would suspect either the drain tube for the AC or the drain tube for the sunroof if you have a sunroof car.

Found the leak!

After pulling the dash and the blower assembly for the HVAC I found one of the clips that the windshield cowl screws into to be the culprit.

One of the clips is located directly above the opening for the blower so it was dripping into it and then leaking into the cabin. Threw some silicone on the clip and she's all sealed up.

At least with the dash out I can properly install black carpet (hope the aftermarket looks good) and get some work done on that nasty 93 coating on the trim.
