window used to work with key out (timer relay)

My FD is a 1992 jdm famspeed rx7. My windows would go up for a minute or so after i turned the key off and I would hear a relay click off by the pedals.
is that just a normal feature???

My windows wont go down at all I checked all my fuses there is 12v getting to the fuse but no power at the drivers window switch. I dont hear that relay click after the key has been off for a minute . they worked fine I had the battery out of my car and when i put it back in the windows dont work at all.
if the power staying on after the key is off for a minute is a normal feature then it must be the f100 flasher thing

I dont have your answer, but I have wondered the same thing.

I have two JDM RX7s here. My 1992 Type S daily and a beaten up 1992 manual R1.

The R1, you can turn the key all the way off, pull it out of the ignition, and you can still operate the power windows for some time after that.

My daily Type S, as soon as you turn the key off, you cant operate the power windows at all.

I'd really like to know if its a spec difference between the cars, or some component has failed in one vs the other?

The timer is in cpu2. The us versions don't have the external relay or wiring to support it; however, the timer is there, it works and you could wire it up if you feel so inclined--I did. It would be nice to see the jdm diagram of this circuit if someone could post it up.

If 92 JDM rx7 have this option then 99 spec fd will have it too.
Can some one confirm this?

Yes, I know that the 1999 to 2002 here also have the feature.

So its a function of CPU #2?? Interesting. When I got my car, the CPU #2 was fried, so I swapped in another CPU from another car. I never regained the timed power window function after that.

Perhaps I need to find another CPU#2.

In my 92 fd base model I can control the windows for a little while after they key has been taken out.

For those interested in this: i just looked at my schematic and it looks like cpu 2 term 'u' is the timer output and it is an open collector that goes low (sinks current to ground) for 45 seconds or so when the timer is activated. So you can drive a small relay that is connected to constant 12v to provide temporary power after the igition is turned off. A very handy feature.

i took the cpu2 apart i didnt see any fried circuits or capacitors. i tried resoldering a few things but still no luck. I left my hood up and it rained a few weeks ago, I had taken the battery out, when i put it all back in my windows didnt work. on the jdm cars the window fuse is under the hood i'll probably have to look around there see if something got wet
