Will the FD soon be owned by other cars coming out?
my opinion is that the "horsepower war" is coming to a plateau, at least for affordable consumer cars. it gets to a point where it is no longer in the interest of the people. i think there will be a lot of cars moving into the 200-350hp range, but not much above that. just think about all these Corvettes running around with 400-500hp, from an insurance standpoint i can see it coming to a halt. also gas prices are on the rise, i think we are gonna have another era like we did during the mid 70's...if anything i think we'll start seeing less gasoline and more hybrids or alternative fuels performance in the near future.

I've driven quite a few newer high-performance cars, and nothing gives the thrill of the FD. Its more than the numbers...I just love how the FD suspension/steering and drivetrain feel (provided they aren't mechanically FUBAR). This car is still a rockstar.

The stock FD is similar to the 911 or other truly great sports cars. It will never be owned by anything other than enthusiast like us who appreciate the fun of driving around corners, stopping on a dime, accelerating from 60 to 120 w/ a constant rush, and most importantly feeling connected to a car not disconnected which is the feeling you get in a z06.

holy cow, i just read the whole dman thread and even though i don't personally own an FD i can't wait to get mine and keep it till the cows are blown away by a nuclear weapon, i plan on getting a 1992FC and a 1992 FD both imported form Japan, and right hand drive, i really love engines (going in to be a mechanic) but how bout an engine with under 20 moving parts? unbeatable, ya stuff brakes but that is just a chance to get to know your car better and more personally. I have a buddy with a 1990 Z32 TT 2+2 he thinks it is the *****'s i wanna get my cars put some money into them, then show him that i still can stick my hand in the engine bay to work on stuff, he is spending so much money on a car that weights over 3000LBS ( i think can't remember) and he says its the best handling car you can get,(has aftermarket kawisaki coilovers) i can't wait to prove him wrong

qouting someone before on this thread they said that the RX-7 will no longer be th king of the street. i must say being a king is pretty good for a something to achieve but so is being a knight, and in terms of the RX-7 i'de say they are the blackest black knight i could ever find, i plan on buying some and making them run to how they were ment to be, raced and pushed to the limits. now if some old guy comes along in his $115,000 (Canadian) Viper and beets me, thats fine, i'm cool with that, i'm going for bang for buck, not spend a retarded amount of money and get beat by the proplerly tuned import, i'm not like these guys that they never open the hood of there car, and take it too a dealer, i get under, i get in i get dirty, if no one else wants to proplery carry on a magnifecient legacy then i geuss i will have to tape the flag to my *** cause thats all the other guy will be seeing

...things to think about....gas prices are rising, ...."Our Friends" in the middle east control most of the oil, .....since 1979 the arctic polar ice cap has melted by 30%, .....over the last few year's the auto makers have been selling hybrids .....and a lot of people who bought SUV's are selling them...muscle cars may one day get rare and expensive...not to say that a 350rwh Hybrid economy car won't be in the market in 10 years....but what automakers are designing today for use tomorrow should reflect what is happening today.

It was once said that the FD would be one of the few Japanese floor room cars that would eventually go up in price....it still is at this point "The Last Rotary Powered Sports Car" RX-8 is considered a sedan.

I didnt read the entire thread, but to me it seems that fuel will be the limiting factor in the HP wars. It will start to get tough to run these low displacement/high HP cars on pump gas.
BTW, I know everyone says there is a horsepower war going on and I have seen the specs, and it would seem there is, but why does everyone still drive like grandma. I drive a Jimmy daily up here in Co. and people are always in front of me and accelerate slow and drive like ediots. Its the monster trucks that try and get all fast. I think fuel economy is going to put an end to horsepower wars and will evolve into hybrid power. I think this is just as fad as when the twin turbo wars of the early and mid 90's went down. I still like the stage 3 BNR upgrade and fuel to get our Fd's ready for anthing. We have a true sports car, not a quick tank or a fast sedan. That's what its all about. How would they do in the 24 hour lemans?
The current fuel problem is more about refining capacity than anything else. IF it was a supply problem station world be running out of gas which isn't the case. Beside most of those cars aren't that bad in the fuel economy area, almost all are better than ours.

is that why auto compainies are putting all their budget in R & D on alternative fuel engine development? We are concentrating on not being dependant on gas. That is why the country is in the position its in now. Just like the SUV, just like the ultra compact car, the market will go with what is being made. Otherwise there would be a new FD in America, they don't give a ****. Why are they working on an alternative fuel renisis engine, instead of a 3 rotor racing renesis? What the majority will buy is what will be made. But this HP war doesn't go with fuel economy, and that is the gonna be the concern in the future weather we like it or not. Watch!!
