Will the FD soon be owned by other cars coming out?
The FD look is very unique, and there aren't many out there, so yeah. Also, a car that is as old as the FDs....still being able to keep up......you gotta think it's amazing. We are beating kids and their new cars.....I love the rx7
If you could afford a $60K + vehicle.. Go buy it.
The Best bang for the bucks are a C6 probably
base model with no options still probably $60k+
Its still domestic with shitty interior and still looked
down upon buy the german/italian super cars.
Think the guys that can afford these cars go race them?
What do you think their median age is?? 40's 50's??
When it comes to all out speed.. At a certain point it turns
into a drivers race... If you drive like Ms Daisy it doesn't
matter what you are driving.. you will Lose.
With that being said.. Ill take my Chances against any porsche, bmw, mercedes, bentley
lamborghini, or ferrari street cars..
Oh and stop racing with magazine articles.

you guys have to hit the Discovery Times Channel and watch a show called "Corvette: rebuilding a legend". I am the least biggest fan of these cars, and I was impressed, very impressed. The Z06 is exactly the model off the track, it is powerful and much more. I have to agree with most people here, the FD combines everything, looks(the best), weight, and power. If you guys are racing every magnum and vette that you see on the street, you are asking for trouble. I like being able to drive mine, **** getting hit by the cops. I like the look on peoples face when I pull up, Rubberneck muthafuckas. Its called respect. I like it. I am praying for a three rotor renesis to come through with the big boys (thanx Howard for the good news), remember HP war, Mazda ain't gonna bitch out. They will step up (PLEASE GOD). When that day comes we will have the last laugh.

Hopefully the new rx7 (which i hear is coming out next year? i hope) will have a good engine.....so i can SWAP INTO MY FD! I dunno man, from the looks of it, mazda is working on a new engine for the rx7. so i hope to hear from it soon, and find out it's not just a rumor....we'll see.......hopefully they rumors will come out to be true and we'll have the 1.6 liter engine, pulling about 300hp NA stock.

Cars have come along way even the sedans are awsome. Anyone played with an AMG mercedes 4 door sedan ? ?? ? Now there's an eye opener ! ! ! LOL Watching it go buy you like the e-brake is on withe the kids in the back grinnin at ya !!!

They better be or they will be left behind. I have faith, but there will never be another 7. It will have to be an RX-9 3 rotor renesis raqcing engine, I highly doubt you will see these engines boosted from the factory, so maybe supercharged, I don't know. I will probably pick up an RX-8 soon as a second toy. As long as they figure out how to get the car running with the big boyz, otherwise maybe the three rotor could go into the 8. Oh ****, I will enjoy my 7 until the end of time, even if I look like grandpa in the right lane and everyone is passing me by. Its the privledge to be an owner of these cars that makes it worth it. The mystique.
Why feel bad, some people (me) bought the FD new at new price and it is still a bargin compared to a Ford GT, Viper or '96 ZO6. Think of the people that spent 250k plus on a ferrari or lambo that will now get beat. By the way I have no regrets and probably have $60-70 k into my car, I could buy a new Viper and still need to spend an additional 10 - 15 k to get it track ready and safty gear outfitted .. so what is the point of this thread. $75k today buys more performance than 75k yesterday just as 15k today buys more than 15k yesterday .. fact of life.

High technology performance is becoming standard thus the more "bang for the buck" era has evolved. Back in late 2002 when the FD hit the streets it's technolgy was space age. Hence the price tag. Alot of thought better come into a 4th generation series. I would be upset if it wasn't "supercar" status. Yes it would be worth it to pay for it too. Keep the rotary performance alive. Again, I hope mazda takes into consideration what the aftermarket has been able to create w/ the advances in power. A 3 rotor twin or small single powerplant would be a good powerplant base. I love kindling old posts!
Each time I sit behind the wheel of my 3rd gen, I have to tell myself, "remember, this car is faster than you should ever travel on any public road". It doesn't need to be any faster unless you want to go onto a racetrack.
As I said to a Mustang driver who wanted to race me (in front of a police station, of all places!!), "perhaps you could beat me in the 1/4, but at the end of the strip I'm turning a 90 deg left, how about you?"
There will always be more expensive, faster cars coming out. How fast can you afford to go?

Look at the cars you mentioned in the first place? Viper, New Vette Z06, GT40 the chepest one on that list is the Vette and it's suppost to be 80k. As for the R32 VW i don't see to many people droping over 20g into a VW to get 500hp out of it. How much was an FD back in the day like 35k. Now its a minimum of 10years old and it still gives most Vette's and Vipers a run for there money. I love my car, and i can't see spending 80k on 11.5 seconds, when i could spend about 30k on and FD and get it there, including the coast of the car not just aftermarket parts.
Force13B is right, the class of cars we are talking about are way more expensive than anything we paid, except maybe Dave Hayes and his 3 rotor. I personally think VW's are gay. I had two VW rabbits back in the day, good for teenagers, after that you are embracing the rainbow. if y'all know what I mean.
plus he forgot to mention that we get to play with the rotary, not those ******* piston monsters. Its got it all, we just have to pray for something new, RX-9, RX-10. they build it we will buy. BTW, I don't know if I like those model names if it ever goes to that.

A base vette with the Z51 package is about 45K and hate to say it but is more fun to drive from a performace stand point. It cost about the same as a FD in todays money and it to bad at the pump. It halls *** in any gear at about any rpm with no lag. I love my FD it not a car everyone has or can have. That makes the RX-7 cool to drive.

First off I want to say that I am not bashing your vette. I happen to like any sporting automobile. I am simply going to state a fact.
A z51 package= 45k
An FD R1=35k + 10k in performance mods..
For 45 k I would retract that statement.
Even a slightly modded fd w/ a stock ecu is a different animal.....

I got a E39 M5, for those 4door AMGs or two doors with >400hp.
Those Benz's are very nice, but more comfort/smoothness oriented than a racer.
I think I put more fear in the AMG's than vise versa.
The E, S, C55 AMG's with the super charged V8's are not scaring
to many 'beast' out there.. But if your talking the AMG 600 class
with their V12's.. I would be worried. But anything South of
$140K from Mercedes.. All it takes is 2 buttons.
DSC (tractioncontrol) Off and, SportButton On (drive by wire with increased
throtttle angles and tigthtens up steering/suspension.
I Ran a high 12 in the FD, with badly slipping S/S clutch.
Slipping thru first, second, third gears. Holding redline
until the drive train caught up. With a new 6puck clutch disk
I believe 11's are attainable and 10's maybe within reach.
And yes the FD was driven to and from the track.
With Full interior, AC, Powersteering.
Thats plenty fast enough to run with any 06's off a showroom.
Including Porsche 911 GT3, Lamborghini, Ferrari, Mclarens
Aston Martin, BMW, Benzs, Corvettes, Mustangs, Pontiacs
have to offer, Modded or not. And my FD is going on 13 years old.
Gets as much OOooohs, and Aaaahs as some of them, Brand new.
But like I said.. If you can afford anything North of 60K+.
Go right ahead. The day you get smoked by a nice FD.
We'll all be here to say " we told you so "
Does not matter what you have.. Just love it..

other cars arent as pretty... im planning on a 20b soon. and when that becomes too slow, it'll be time for an LS2 or something.
you sound like a bunch of old women on lifetime who miss the "good ol' days" and hate teenagers. this car is getting old. deal with it.

Whats to retract there.
In today’s money that car would have cost 45K+ cost living and such (http://www.aier.org/cgi-aier/colcalculator.cgi). Base cost in my case 38K in 94' touring + rebuild new turbos and mods 16K plus that about 65K. Still don't get your point using your logic. At best they're pretty close in a purely academic exorcise the vette is way more bang for the buck. What you didn't factor in to support your statement is the 11 year of fun. You could pick a nice FD for 14K and mod it to be faster for sure. However in terms of daily driver the highly modified FD is not nearly as refined as the stock vette.
I been driving my FD for 10 years and love it to the point of obsession but having spent some time in the behind the wheel of the vette I could make the switch and never look back. I don’t because with in a month or two my RX restoration will be paid for and I won’t have anything like a car payment to deal with. This means we agree for the most part.
Also keep in mind for around 12K you can yank that 6L and replace it with 7L Z06 engine. That would put you in low 11's with a factory spec motor. Just go test drive one and I would be surprised if you didn't walk away with a huge smile. No necessary evil turbo charger just raw power that go from a kitten to lion with the twitch of the foot.
