Will the FD soon be owned by other cars coming out?
I've enver regretted owning my FD at all - even through the rugged days when my car wasn't on the road. I agree that the FD is still be far the most unique import from it's era. There's still not a car out there that can compete with it's looks, modability, handling, and performance for the price you can get them for now. I am an enthusiast and the FD will always be my favorite car.
The reason I wrote the thread was I was so amazed by the performance of these cars. And as many people that have posted here humbly saying they like their FD because they are an enthusiast - you can't tell me that there is a small part of you that wants your car to be one of the fastest out there - for a while I enjoyed that feeling of never losing a race - I know there are much faster cars out there but they had to be modified - these cars coming out are stock. I always felt good that my car could beat 99% of the production cars - that's starting to change...

I think a lot of FD owners (and rotary owners in general) love our cars, not because they're the absolute fastest, but because they're just plain obscure... and "quirky," which can be interpreted as a good or bad thing, depending on your patients, pocketbook and knowhow. For me, it's a noteable piece of fuctional mechanical art that I'm proud to own a piece of, regardless of what's faster.
ugh. I was sick of seeing these recent threads pop up, now I'm contributing to them. Sorry!
Besides, all those new super cars have cup holders and thats highly unnecessary.
I mean, who cares about having a fun car to enjoy. If your sports car has a cup holder, it just makes you look dumb; and isn't the point of having an FD to look cooler than everyone else?

The cars you are talking about cost the same price as at least 5 FD's. For the same price as a z06, you could put together an FD that would out-style, overpower, and outperform practically anything on the road, including the cars you mentioned.

And by circles I mean literally circles. You would be lapping these cars by the end of the session.
These cars in GT full tube frame, fiberglass, race engine, can't even run with my FD( I mean formula car that cost the same as an FD)

Yes I do really have an FD.
Yeah but I can't run a formula car on the street, you say... No **** driving on the street sucks. You can never truely push the limit of a car on the street, never mind a new GT40. So why even bother with it. I guess it's just my view on it.
You would be amazed what a single seater car, made only to get around the track as fast as possible feels like. That's why I laugh every time a ricer, old or new school muscle car pulls up at a stop light and want's to race. Why??? because they really have no idea what true wheel to wheel racing is, or even what a truely fast car is.
Not saying you should sell your FD to buy a formula car, but if your going to sell your FD to get a new viper because you want more performace. Dude just buy a formula car. More performace for less money.
What I'm trying to say is the FD has way more than enough power for you or I to tame for the street with our average driving skills. Plus they look sick. Ask yourself why do you need more performace for the street. No need for a GT40 performace #s on the street.
I love my FD, a couple of months ago I was about to buy a new car. I lookd but couldn't find anything that came close to my FD. I don't care how fast these new cars are, they might be faster but my car will look better.
i think threads like this are pointless, the FD is a very old car, it was made in a diff era. of course newer cars are going to be faster. Just remember, people drive cars, not computers.
there will always be a faster car out there..doesnt matter if you get a 2005 quick from factory car right now, next year, something will be available thats faster and with new technology..this is a hard to compete type of industry, things change so fast..
you get a car based on your taste for satisfaction..if you're buying a car simply for trying to be "king of the streets", you're mind is still immature..
and to answer the thread title, yes there are TONS of cars out now that will put the FD in its place..even within original price range from when the FD first came out..

Im sure that many of you have noticed that you cannot drive your car without drawing attention from a multitude of people ranging in ages, young to old, of all ethnicities, male and female, and from diverse backgrounds. You dont have to be driving fast and furious (pardon the coined phrase) or flexing your horsepower muscle to garner this attention. The FD with all its uniqueness in styling, its unique powertrain, the feel and handling when you drive, and its sultry timeless beauty leaves much of the "competition" literally in the dust. The Fd is a breed of its own and in so many ways "genetically" superior.
Enjoy the car for all it is.

I believe we have nothing to worry about!
When I went to the local drag strip last month SRT-4's and Evolutions were only doing low 13's high 12's. Supra's were running low 13's high 12's and that's on 18 psi! I couldn't believe the sucky numbers they were putting out. And a 2005 Z06 ran a high 12! It's really not the horsepower you have to worry about. Weight has a lot to do with it too, and it all comes down to the driver!

the fd3s might be 10+ years old, but it will always be a rare sports car to import enthusiasts. you will always turn heads because of the way the car looks. for people who dont know what it is, they will even think its a luxury car.
the same goes with the supra. old but will forever be a sports car icon in the import world.

Anyways I found this thread and thought it was interesting that people felt the same way a few years ago as they do now. As far as being owned by other cars coming out, I'd have to say no it won't soon be owned (not in 2003) and not in 2005. The power to weight ratio isn't being matched by a lot of the new "sports" cars coming onto the market, nor is handling ability (imo).
If you're talking about cars $50k msrp and above, that may be a different story.
Hahaha, I love the "beats 99% of everything on the road".
Wow, so it beats all of the Minivans, SUVs, economy cars, etc. on the road. I'm sure that makes up 80% of that 99%.
I read that way too often accross pretty much every Sports car forum (300zx, Supraforums, Mr2 forums, Here..)
Just funny :P

Guys... owning an FD is a honor that you wont get by buying one of these expensive faster cars. Anybody can buy those cars but how long are they gonna keep them? And how long has the FD been around compared to those cars? We own a car that is legendary. The FD is better because it turns heads more than those other cars sometimes because some people belive it or not dont even know what an FD is! So be appreciative of the beautiful sports car that you have. Just keep them alive long enough and well soon be owners of antiques that still run in good condition... I hope haha

Anyone that thinks the mid price high hp cars will be flooding the streets anytime soon forgot one of the most important words in the auto industry. INSURANCE! Give the new Cobras and Chargers a couple years to rack up the damage in the hands of late teens and early 20's and you'll likely see a change in the industry. Also keep in mind your RX7 is a finite resource, everytime an idiot F&F teen hits a tree your value firms up a little and your insurance gets a little worse.
