wierd electrical/breakdown help please
car is jap spec 94 FD, apexi PFC & commander, vmount, knightsports rf420s, WI, rebuild 6 months ago, properly mapped, defi guages etc. Have had it for 8 years, so know my way around most of it!
Car has been running absolutely fine till today, when coasting off throttle coming off the motorway onto a sliproad i noticed the rev counter drop like a stone and the engine died. All interior lights and radio still working. Coasted to a layby - hazards working (but not indicators seperately). Display on PFC commander blank. No smell of burning, no wierd noises or smoke etc. Turned off everything, tried to restart, no cranking, no display on commander - all other electrics seemed ok (apart from indicators).
Lowloaded home :-(
Since then:
Checked all fuses, all seem ok. 12v power apparently not getting to ECU. The installer who put in the WI controller (devils own kit) tapped the 12v to the ECU to power it, and LEDs don't light, suggesting ECU power line failure. Put in a spare stock ECU, nothing.
EGI fuse ok, and 120A, and all others i could find.
Batt volt 11.9 at battery and at various fuses tested.
10A room fuse ok
15A meter fuse ok
radio aerial doesn't go up. Main gauge cluster lights up but warning lights and odometer do not. Indicators do not work. Wipers, interior lights, radio, defi gauges, wideband, mirrors all work ok.
i've done a search++ across all the FD forums I'm on!
Suggestions so far - loom damaged / ignition power cable above arch liner? no obvious damage visible though.
In the daylight I will try and trace back from the ECU to the ignition.
Not sure why it isn't even cranking though.
? earthing issue?
Any help would be gratefully received!!
thanks

sorted - there was a short aftermarket hks turbotimer loom between the ignition barrel and the loom, which had been tapped to grab IGN+ and 12V for some guages. It had melted through and one pin had gone black and obviously wasnt making contact. Clearly, it has been thrown out now! all working again.
