Why is my fuel filter getting SMASHED by the differential?

I just got done replacing my fuel filter. Lowering the differential a few inches made it really easy to get to. One thing I noticed was when I was putting the differential back in place was that it was smashing against the fuel filter wedging it between the body and the differential. On closer inspection of the old filter it looks to have shared the same fate. What the hell is going on?

How old are your diff. bushings? They might be sloppy enough to cause that kind of movement of the pumpkin. OEM Diff bushings are usually good for 60 to 80k. G

I also just put new Delrin bushings at the same time as well.

Could the fuel filter be installed wrong? Like on the wrong side of the crossmember or something weird?

Yeah I went ahead and relocated it. Everything from what I've seen as far as other pictures and the service manual tells me it was installed correctly. Oh well, doesn't matter now, it's been relocated.

Also, delrin bushings sure do let me know that the differential is there.
