If you really searched, you'd find a way to pull the codes out and see what the problem is. Search a little harder...

I sincerely doubt you searched, because pulling engine codes is a basic FD topic....

http://www.fd3s.net/engine_codes.html

The procedure for checking codes is also in Section F of the Factory Service Manual, which can be downloaded for free from the stickied thread.

You could try cleaning it first....but be prepared to have to replace it.

I'm glad I have a 95 -- no EGR, no PCV.

replace it with a mazda federal non Cali ECU. it will not look for the electronic switch and your light problem will be gone. I had the same problem after paying to replace the EGR valve. same problem came back. post in the for sale section and you will find one for cheep

theirs a non cali 5speed ecu in the for sale section for $50.00 by goodfellaFD3s.this should get rid of the check engine light code 16 and still keep the egr working.

So you have a 94. The 93 and 95 ECU's don't give a rats *** about the EGR, so you have three options, replace your egr, get a 93 ECU and swap it out and it won't look for the egr, or you can get a 95 ecu which doesn't look at the egr because the 95's don't have them. Your options are nearly endless, oh the 4th one I forgot to mention is do nothing.
