Why Do Motors Blow So Soon???

I am looking into buying a 93 R1 w/ 60000 miles for 11,500 but I keep
seeing people post that their motors are blowing after as little as 40000
miles. Is it worth it to buy these cars? Or are they going to nickel and dime
me to death because I have no clue how to work on one and the motor is
a time bomb? How much does it cost in parts and labor to get a new
motor and turbos installed? I really love these cars and want to get one but I am not sure that I can afford all of the problems. Thank you for the help

I have a '93 Touring. It just turned 60K and is running strong. If the car was maintained (oil changes) and not overheated it should be fine. You could always have the compression checked and look for any white smoke when you start it for coolant leaks.

As for the cost? I have only done mostly reliability modifications with only 2 performance mods and my total is approaching $3000. It is not a car for a shallow pocket book but man WHAT A RIDE!!

If you want a unique car with kick A performance, this is it!
