I'd love to see some lap times for comparison purposes.

Me too! We'd need a mods list of the car of course. I wonder how the FD stacks up against the best of Europe on their home turf?

hmm, i'd be alittle suprized if it put down good numbers actually,

looks like the front end is dropped far passed the point of any useful handling.

looks nice though

On a track that difficult your time comes down to a few key factors...

1. Driver
2. Driver
3. Driver
4. Weather
5. Car

I'm sure most people here have seen the run of the RUF CTR2 "Yellow Bird" around the ring by Stefan Roser. Some of the stuff he did driving the production car (I'm not really sure how the RUF CTR2 is a production car but thats another story) record lap is pretty much insane for anyone without a ton of seat time in a Porsche (or other RR HP heavy cars).

The FD is a very well designed platform and with the right driver I'm sure it can run very good laps. The stock 93-95 255hp version is going to have a hard time running "great" times but a beefed up one to the level of what RUF did to the 930 would give the CTR2 a run for its record.

If you haven't seen the run:

That FD doesn't have a body kit. It has the factory front and rear r1 spoilers and the oem mazda sideskirts from what i can see.

i dont agree!!

As you can see the fd was going down hill and is know changing direction and is know begining to go up hill therefore the spring will have alot of force on them and cause them to full close

AFAIK Max isn't on here. I will drop him an e-mail pointing him over though

Easter was just his second visit to the ring, so asking for lap times would be just a little pointless - IMHO you'd have to do hundreds of laps before being able to get a decent time around the place. We (Max, myself, and few of the other UK FD owners) will be back there in August and I'll see if I can get one of the guys who knows the place (I certainly don't - it's just dangerous IMHO) to video a lap from an FD.

BTW, his car is nothing like stock - GT35/40 plus appropriate mods.

Wow! Found the thread courtesy of Rob, who emailed me the link, cheers mate.

Thanks power_put, as you correctly deduced, there are several sections of the track where the springs really get a good work out, hence the compression (it was touching the inner arch at the top, the worst place being the caroussel, very very heavy on suspension).

This particular section is just after a very fast crest, in a dip leading up to a fairly aggressive right hander.

The car is a 92 with a Garrett GT35/40 turbo, Apexi GT Intercooler, ported, 1300 cc secondary injectors, Denso Supra fuel pump, HKS Twinpower, 10.5 plugs, SX FPR, electric water pump, Feed rear box, midpipe with O2 sensor, ceramic single plate clutch, Racing Beat springs, sway bars, Koni adjustable dampers, Volk Racing GT-7 rims with Dunlop D01J R compound tyres, solid engine mounts, solid diff mounts, Kaaz 1.5 way diff, Porsche 993 turbo front brakes, Apexi ECU with datalogit, Motec professional lambda meter, Bride bucket seat.

All in, 359 rwhp at 0.9 bar (but I know that you measure power differently somehow!) Works out around 450 fwhp. One bar power run coming up next month

I was munching everything in a straight line, including Porsche 993 and 996 turbo's, GT3's and keeping up with a lot of the big boys during most laps, although many of them knew the circuit far better than me, so getting passed was expected.

I was very impressed with the setup of the car though, very very neutral and lots of lateral grip, made for good laps! Shame the suspension kept bottoming out.

One of my passengers recorded my time for me at 9 minutes dead with little traffic, but I was not pushing too hard, only done around 25 laps so I've lots to learn about the Nordschleife.

I do in fact have a lap on video, broken down into four sections, but Nurburgring regulations do not allow either in car photo's or video, so I cant post it - shame.

Having said that, someone will be discreetly hosting it for me soon, and I might be able to put a link up, if you all promise not to make it public knowledge

Wow, 9 minutes sounds VERY respectable!

Did they give any reasons why there is no in car video or pictures allowed?

Hahaha!!

That's what the passenger said!

Unfortunately the place is not exactly smooth, combined with fairly hard FD suspension makes for a jumpy experience
