Whoa... wierd oil leak/smoke problem.. turbo related..

Okay.. big problems guys.. First off, I now know NEVER to trust BNR to put the accessories back on an engine right (seem to have forgotten a few gaskets..)

Anway, I finally replaced all of the gaskets I was missing (filler neck, turbo inlet/outlet, etc.)

The setup is a 94 fd, rx6 turbo, built motor, ....

The problem is that after I replaced all of this, I am blowing massive amounts of oil out the exhaust! So much that the car is bogging down and when I take my fot off the gas, the blow off valve dumps oil all over the engine compartment...

Any clues? Please help me figure this one out, I've searched and can't come up with anything... I'm not leaking oil anymore, just burning lots of smoke! (i mean massive amounts of white smoke, too...)

I know oil smoke is blue, right, but mine is white... And I know I'm blowing oil through the entire intake... help..

The motor was built by BNR and has about 9k on it...

oh yeah... i also had to replace gaskets for the turbo oil inlet/exit areas... The turbo spools fine, just loads of oil. I am almost 90% sure that the oil is entering the system through the turbo and is blowing through... (can even see it in the air intake portion of the turbo when you take the filter off)

seems to only happen at a low idle and when i GUN it...

it goes away while cruising...

Pull the air pipe from the turbo to the intercooler off the car .Now start it up and see if the smoke clears, and if oil is comming out of the turbo with the air flow . If there is no oil mist in the air flow and the car still smokes , pull the turbo off and put a manifold off a non turbo car on there and start it up . If there is no smoke then you know the engine is good and the turbo is bad .If the turbo oil seal is bad than the oil can go out the exhaust end of the turbo in to the exhaust pipe and burn, =alot of smoke . If you need an exhaust manifold for testing, and will pay shipping both ways ,call Garfinkle to lend you one .Side note he has a sister in New O.LA 615-893-4469

yeah. i tested like that. (i pulled the intercooler off and fired her up. no more smoke at all. i had a kinked oil return line from the turbo (why the hell it is a rubber hose is beyond me) and my intake tract filled with oil. I think all I'm bruning now is residual oil left in the system (i dumped the intercooler out, probably two or three CUPS of oil....) How long does it normally take for excess oil to burn out? The turbo spools to 15psi with no problem, doesn't make any funny noise, and seems straight. Is it possible to rebuild an apexi rx6 turbo's o-rings? I don't think I want to try it...

Anyone have any ideas for any turbo that bolts to the rx6 manifold? (i won't buy another one... too much $$$).- that's a last resort.. i really think it's residual, but i just drove 35 miles... the smoke level has gone down, and my oil level hasn't gone down, but it's still smoking at idel and WOT...

what is the coolant relation to this? I'm not leaking any, but everyone is saying that white smoke means coolant...

What's your coolant level in the filler neck and overflow tank?

coolant looks fine, I definitely know now that it is coming in from that turbo oil line. Is there a possiblility of there being too much oil?

i was told to check the crankcase pressure ventilation, i unplugged it and no fix, then i rechecked the hose coming from the turbo... (oil) and replaced the rubber peice. I resealed the gasket on the oil return line,. Anyone think that could be the problem? Could I have clogged it with gasket maker?

Thanks again, Rob
