Who is making enough torque to snap pulley bolts?

I sure as hell know I'm not. Three of the four bolts holding my drive pulley to the hub snapped. Does anyone know what bolt size they are?

The real problem is..... how the hell do you get those bolt ends out???? I tried a screw extractor from the Depot but it didn't work, the threads were a little to small. I am going to pick up one from Sears tomorrow which should have a little better grip. I am soaking the bolts in liquid wrench. Drilling and tapping seems to be the next step but on something rotating so fast if you weren't to tapp perfect wouldn't it mess everything up?

10MM head -6mm shank 1.pitch . drill and retap if you can not get the easy out to work. go back with allen head bolts ,they are stronger, use lock tight.

you can order the same, identical bolts from Global Metrics- i know they have a wherehouse here in the bayarea (belmont CA)- because i have gotten them before from them- along with any other funky OEM bolt i ever wanted!!!
they wont know what the hell the bolt is if you tell them its from a car- i always just showed them and they came out with it- 1.00 dollar minimum charge!

Try an "easy out" or the extractor from sears. The sears one took a while but I got a 14mm turbo manifold bolt out with it.

Hold the drilling and tapping thought for last.

It doesn't really matter how much torque the engine makes it won't snap those bolts. Someone either tightened them to much and/or the belts were too tight. Becareful with the belt tensioner, the belts don't really need to be super tight, all the pulleys have a lot of belt engagement (if you have the airpump).

Try a good bolt exctractor, good luck.

Thanks guys for the info. I know the engine torque wouldnt do it.... I am pretty sure the dumb *** who put my motor in before I bought the car didn't torque down the bolts right. I will try the other extractor because it is like 1$ then if that doesnt work time to tap.

Oh yeah gsrsol did yours look like a corkscrew or did it look like a flat blade? Sears has 2, they only had the flat blade at the closest sears. I am going to go out to another one today hoping to find that corkscrew type.

Ok tried the flat blade type extractor... it twisted the extractor all up, no luck. I tried to drill one hole out but after drilling the hole didn't line up perfect with the holes on the pulley. What is the next step now? From all the info I have, pulling off the old hub and installing a new is too risky. I am about to roll the car out of the garage into an oncomming car.

DRILL the bad hole out bigger for the next size bolt and tap it out , Garfinkle said if it was his customers he would do all 4 the same size.
