Who knows the difference between these Air Intake Systems?

Besides the price and brand awareness, what are the differences between a brand name air intake system like Apexi and the no names on Ebay?

The main difference is going to be that the Apexi intake has provisions for the other hoses which go to the airbox. The other generic intake will not have those provisions so you'll have to figure out what to do with the other 4 hoses.

Another difference is going to be the filters used with each kit. IIRC, Apexi uses K&N for the filters. The generic brand may use a less desirable brand filters.

I don't think the generic intakes are necessarily bad, you just need to understand what you are getting. With any foam based filter, make sure you work some filter oil into the filter. You can use K&N oil or any other foam filter oil from a motorcycle shop.

Quote from the e-bay add: "Patent Pending 'Spiral Flow' tubing" It's a freaking dryer vent...

Mahjik said it fairly well.

Couple additional points:

-That generic one is a single filter and tube (a "Spiral Flow" tube, apparently). The FD has two intake pipes. So you'll need to either buy two of those kits, or you'll need a method to split the piping into two separate routes. Not worth the cost/work for a system like that. Especially not when you can build your own from better components for the same price (or cheaper). Plus, used kits are always available in the FS section.

-Plus, I don't think enough is said about aesthetics anymore. I see so many FD's nowadays that just look plain ghetto-rigged. IMHO, that may be something that's acceptable on el-cheapo CRX's, but not for an FD.

Just my $0.02

-Rob

the ebay stuff is junk...

for one thing, youd have to buy 2 of them since fd's have twin intakes. and the apexi intake filters mount right onto the stock pipes and it has the inserts for the bov's and the air pump.

if you search in the 3rd gen parts section of the forum, you can most likely find a set of apexi intakes for cheap(ive seen them as low as $50 before!)

I would also imagine that the so called "spiral flow tubing" would cause more turbulence then anything else.
