Question about exhaust line fitment
Hi,
Simple question: If I want to keep my main cat, would I have any problem mounting an aftermarket cat-back such as XS Power or Corksport?
Same for the DP but as everyone is making this change I guess it's not a big deal.
My concern is that the tubes will have certainly different diameters, the size of the studs or screws might be differents, and the route also might change?
Thanks for any input.

The different diameters really aren't the issue, its the mating flanges. You can keep the stock main catalytic converter in place and use an aftermarket catback and downpipe. Keep in mind, there some brands have fitment problems with the stock cat flanges. They aren't huge issues, but they may require a little grinding to get a decent fit. If you have an exhaust shop install the pieces, they shouldn't have a problem.

All right, thanks Mahjik.
It's just a question of proper fixing and avoid leakage then.
But thenwhat's the point having a 3" DP, much less diameter main cat, and again a 3" cat-back??
The flow is then not continuous and it creates perturbations, reasonance etc...
Do the aftermarket high flow cats such as those from rx7club or the bönez ones remedy to that?

You still increase flow even if the entire exhaust path isn't a full 3". A 3" downpipe alone adds some performance to a stock exhaust system. Yes, there are 3" mid-sections with catalytic converters. You just need to decide which catalytic converter type you want: ceramic or metallic substrate. Magnoflow and Bonez are basically ceramic.
