For those of you that do have them, did you purchase the fenders this way or modify the stock fender? There was a thread about this a long time ago, pre-hack days it seems, where someone had actually made a template to mark spot the lights went?

someone just sold a set of those fenders for 400 used here on the forums. i believe one could easily make a set by drilling the 2 or 3 holes needed and running some wires. its not that difficult.

I am 99.9% sure it is much more then a few holes. I have Border Fenders for sale straight from Japan w/ OEM lights in them and the hole is basically the same size as the light.

the bodyshop I had paint my car cut the holes. Even though I provided millions of photos they are slightly off. The holes need to be the size of the light with a little cut for the tab that pops and holds the light in place.

Man...I wish I was at home right now (I'm in Texas for a few days...). I have a diagram w/ the exact measurements you need to center the tailight where it is on the 99spec JDM fenders.

Oh and bajaman, your best bet is to buy fenders w/ the holes already in them. from someone already in the US. Buying the original fenders from Japan precut is $$$$ (shipping the fender). Doable, but $$. I got a few guys who want JDM fenders (not OEM), so we may be shipping a bunch of parts over together. If you wanna get in, and split the shipping on 'em, lemme know

I can get you the sidemarker lights (genuine), but prob is, it's expensive to have a shop precision cut the hole in the fender (and I'd recommend you have a shop do it, b/c if they mess up, they'll have to buy you a new fender...vs. you being stuck w/ the cost If the hole is even a TINY bit wider, the sidemarker will simply fall out lol). The sidemarker's expensive too - if you go original.

On that note however, plz keep in mind that the JDM and the European sidemarkers are different. JDM are orange, and the European ones (even if they're made in Japan, they're aftermarket, copying European cars) are clear/white. Both are expensive, but you can get the orange (JDM like) ones for $40 or so from the local stealership by asking for the Protege or MPV Van sidemarkers. They're virtually identical. Just ask for the cheaper one

PS: If you need further help w/ any of this, feel free to PM me. I went through all this hassle, and had my US fenders cut, and the sidemarkers fit. I'll try and post the pic I have on Tueday, when I get back home.

I just bought a set of the yellow (JDM) lights off Ebay for a $1.00. Cost me $6 shipped. No one else bid on them. They were in pretty good shape and came with the light socket that plugs into it. It was an impulse buy, but in a year or two I may do a complete refinish on my car, and figured I'd install them then. They don't look too difficult to put in, but as mentioned above, I was thinking you'd want to go slow while doing the cut-out to fit. The worse thing would be to make the hole too large.

the car is significantly different to the pic above now.

just got it back after being t-boned by a 18 year old girl.

different colour and different wheels.

Point i was making about the gaurds is you could track down some over here and have them sent over. i have bought stuff from the states before so i can't see it being a huge problem getting stuff sent over there. It seems to be a hell of a lot cheaper too.

^ Pretty much. I got ones off Mazda Tributes. The one's on the protege nowadays are clear I think. Not sure. I know Mazda uses both amber/clear ones in their current cars.

Having seen both originals and the US Mazda ones, there are very slight subtle differences, but for all intensive purposes, they are the same.
