White smoke rx7

Hi, I'd like to know what could be the cause of white smoke coming out of an FD's exaust. Could it be coolant fluid from a cracked head? How do you fix it, and is it expensive? thanks alot

I would say it could be a coolant seal since the rotary doesn't have a head. I don't want to immediately go to the worst case so you should describe the problem more so the experienced guys could try and help you (how much smoke? when does it occur, at start up? while driving?). When the coolant seal goes you need a rebuild which can run as much as 5-6k.

I personally wouldn't get it because it sounds like it needs a rebuild if not right away then sometime in the near future. What was the asking price? Read up alittle more on the car, you can find a lot of great info and advice on the forum. I'm sure someone more knowledgeable than me will chime in. Good luck.

If it smokes heavily and/or for more than a few seconds on startup, it is likely a bad coolant seal, which means an engine rebuild.

I suggest you spend some serious time researching these cars before buying one. I also suggest finding a local FD owner to help you look at any car you are interested in.

first how many miles does it have???

second, if it smokes at all at startup, and continues for more than a few seconds. its gonna need a rebuild soon!

third, if it is coolant smoke, there is def something wrong, whatever it may be.

and finally, i especially wouldn't recommend this car if it is going to be your only daily driver!!!

dont get me wrong, the RX-7 is a spectacular car to own, work on, and especially an awesome sports car that to my opinion doesn't match up to anything else. not to mention the cool sound of that rotary engine. lol

take it from someone who has been through it already and got burned on a bad rotary engine.

if the price is cheap. under 11k. depending on the body, and mileage. take it, if you have the funds and time to rebuild not only the engine, but the turbos also.

that way you will have yourself a excellent machine for about 18k.

I've just had an engine rebuild thanks to a broken apex seal and upon insertion of the new engine, white smoke began bellowing out of the exhaust. Rotary specialist believes it to be a broken seal within the turbo... I am new , so I have no idea...just letting you know what t might be...
